NEW FLORISSANT ROAD AND NEW HALLS FERRY ROAD
TO BE CLOSED FOR I-270 REPAIRS BEGINNING JULY 6
FLORISSANT, MO, June 5, 2015 — New Florissant Road and New Halls Ferry Road in Florissant will be temporarily closed at I-270 for approximately one month beginning the week of July 6, 2015. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MODOT) at that time will make repairs to the I-270 bridges that span each of the two roads.
The closures are anticipated to last for about one month, during which time there will be no access to or from eastbound I-270 at either location. Residents are encouraged to plan alternate routes to avoid delays during the construction. I-270 will remain open during the project, but significant traffic delays are expected. Work on both bridges will be done simultaneously.
The I-270 bridges over New Florissant Road and New Halls Ferry Road in north St. Louis County are both more than 50 years old. They are classified by MODOT as structurally deficient with severe deterioration of the driving surface. The MODOT project will replace the driving surface with a new structural overlay. This project will extend the usable life of the bridges until funding becomes available for full bridge replacements.
MODOT says that preliminary construction will begin in early June, focusing at that time on preparing the ramps and bypass for the I-270 lane closures. From July through early August, eastbound I-270 will be reduced to two through lanes and routed down and back up the interchange ramps without stopping. Westbound I-270 will continue to have three through lanes, but traffic will be shifted.
New Florissant Road will be closed during construction from Dunn Road to Jean Drive. New Halls Ferry Road will be closed from Dunn Road to South Pershall Road. There will be no access from eastbound I-270 to the one-way outer road between New Halls Ferry Road and Old Halls Ferry Road.
