Changes for Nursing Home, Denny’s

The Florissant City Council elected new council officers at its last meeting on May 26. Joe Eagan was reelected council president and Jackie Pagano was elected council vice president. The president runs the meetings for the council.

In other matters, the council passed several bills. The first authorized a special use permit to Sunrise Restaurants, doing business as Denny’s Restaurant, to allow for renovations to the restaurant at 2925 N. Hwy. 67 including repainting the existing exterior bricks.

The council also passed a bill that allows Bent-Wood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, located at 1501 Charbonier Rd., to expand.

The home, which has been open since 1989, currently has 76 beds. The bill will allow it to expand by approximately 13,000 square feet, adding 20 more beds. The one story addition will be on the east side of the property. The center will also add 20 more parking spots.

Design Funding for St. Anthony Lane Bridge

The council also passed a bill appropriating funds to complete the design for the St. Anthony Lane Bridge replacement. They also passed a bill authorizing the appropriation of $17,000 for Mayor Tom Schneider’s vehicle. Councilman Tim Lee that the mayor had indicated that he will drive the car for the rest of his term.

The council also approved a package liquor license for the new Wal-Mart at 3390-3400 N. Hwy 67 expected to be open soon. No opening date has been announced yet

Finally, the council approved two requests by residents to keep hens and chickens. Frank and Trena Prewitt requested approval to keep four hens at their home on St. Bernadette. “They have a nice property and a nice big backyard where a coop will fit,” said Councilman Keith Schildroth. Lou Behlmann requested approval to keep two chickens at 1 Loekes Ct. “I have no problems with chickens,” Councilman Tim Jones said.

First readings were given to bills to amend the speed limits on a section of New Halls Ferry Rd and another for amending the speed limit on a section of North Highway 67 (Lindbergh).
