Hazelwood Central, McCluer Win

District Boys Track And Field

In the first year of Five Class Track & Field Hazelwood Central begins their quest to be the first Class Five Boys Champion while McCluer took advantage of being in Class Four.

At Lutheran High School North May 16 Hazelwood Central scored 112 points to win Class Five District Three. At Mary Institute-Country Day School, the same day, McCluer rolled up 164 points to win Class Four, District Three (and MICDS also hosted Class One, Sectional One in a Salisbury sweep). Also at Lutheran North McCluer South-Berkeley won Class Three, District Three by scoring 139 points.

Hazelwood Central finished nine and a half points ahead of Parkway North (102.5) while McCluer North (100) finished third 12 points behind Central. Despite the high score McCluer finished just six points better than St. Charles (158), a team that battled McCluer South-Berkeley the past two years and won districts as well.

Hazelwood Central qualified eight runners to compete in eight sectional events this Saturday, May 23 at MICDS, and the Hawks qualified in three relay events. Tahj Williams led the way for Central by winning the 100 Meter Dash (11.1 seconds) and 200 Meter Dash (22.39 seconds). Lawan Alade-fa won the 400 Meter Dash (49.21 seconds) while finishing third at 100 Meters.

Justin Hall was second at 200 Meters (22.41 seconds) and fourth at 400 Meters. Finishing second were Lexus Morrow in the Discus (142’11”) and Reginald Howard in the Shot Put (49’1″). Third-Place finishers include the 4×400 Meter Relay Team, Justin Blackmon in the 110 Meter High Hurdles and Oji Wells in the 800 Meter Run.

McCluer qualifed to return to MICDS May 23 10 individuals in 10 events, winning six of them, while qualifying all four relay teams, which inclue three winners. Individual champions include Raequan Stallings, 100 Meter Dash (11.2 seconds), Kevin Spraggins, 200 Meter Dash (22.32 seconds), Asa McFadden, 400 Meter Dash (50.5 seconds), Josh Haskin, High Jump (6’2″), Demetrius Thomas, Shot Put (50’5.5″) and Lynell Owens, Discus, (142’5″). The winning relay teams inclue 4×100 Meters (42.69 seconds), 4×200 Meters (1:29.71) and 4×400 Meters (3:23.4).

Finshing second includes Haskin in the 300 Meter Intermediate Hurdles (41.82 seconds), Henry Jones at 200 Meters (22.37 seconds) and Kyren Martin in the 400 Meter Dash (50.68 seconds). Finising third includes the 4×800 Meter Relay Team, Haskin in the 110 Meter High Hurdles, Owens in the Discus, Marcus Thomas in the High Jump and Aric Clinton in the Pole Vault.

McCLUER NORTH qualified to compete at MICDS four relay teams and four individuals in seven events. Harry Ballard, who qualified in three individual events, won the High Jump (6’2″) and Long Jump (22’5.25″).

   HAZELWOOD EAST will send to Class Five Sectional Two the 4×400 Meter Relay Team (second-3:23.26) as well as four individuals in five events. Leading the way is Eric Wooten, who won the 800 Meter Run (1:59.29).

   HAZELWOOD WEST will compete in four indivdiual events at MICDS. Leading the way May 16 were second-place finishers William Baham, 3,200 Meter Run (10:40.95), and Isaiah Cole, 400 Meter Dash (50.2 seconds).

In the Class Three Sectional Two at Montgomery County TRINITY CATHOLIC will compete in the 4×200 Meter Relay. North Tech has no sectional qualifiers.
