Perhaps Rams Should Be Looking at 2 Quarterbacks

As we approach the NFL draft, it looks like the number one prospect for the Rams will be a quarterback. Who would have thought that after paying $50 million to quarterback Sam Bradford just a few years ago, that the franchise would be looking to dole out another wad of cash to another QB.

But I think they need to. They need to draft someone with their first pick, but I also think that they need to spend the money and try and get a big name experienced quarterback into camp not only for the teams sake but for the sake of the fans.

You have to have a name at that position even if it is for face sake. It shows the fans that you are trying and that even if it is just for perception, it will put people in the seats. I am so tired of hearing about the rebuilding of a team or a franchise, that is all great and dandy with a team that is not struggling the way the Rams have for years now.

Jeff Fisher has this team headed in the right direction but if they don’t win soon, the fans will really become distant bound. Remember winning solves everything.

If they win a season or two, the fans will forget all about the rocky past and fill the place to capacity again. I always say it but, this is a make it or break it year with the franchise heading into this new stadium deal in St. Louis and the prospect of Los Angeles on our minds.

I talk about youth sports a lot because I think many parents out there are dealing with the same issues that I face. There is the saying out there that sports are all for fun and when the kids are not having fun it is not worth it. There is some truth to the matter but how fun is it to lose every game.

When you teach your child that it doesn’t matter if they win or lose just have fun carries over into life. There are winners and losers in life, actually in every situation every day.

Sports are a teaching lesson for life, how to work together as a group to accomplish something and how working hard at something can pay off. Ask a kid if they go to practice every week and then play in a game every week and lose every week if they are having fun. The answer is probably not.

Winning is fun. When as a society did we start teaching that if we win too much it is a bad thing? It’s the efforts of practice, talent and hard work. Is it wrong to keep kids that eat, breathe, and sleep a sport together on a team and allow the ones that consistently fall behind go.

Actually I don’t feel it is. Who is being hurt by this more, the few that could care less if they are even there at a game, that goof off at practice, that are there because they were dropped off NO, the ones being hurt are the ones that want to learn and be good.

A coach is doing a favor to the ones who are let go so they can play at a level where they can develop. A good coach weaves in fun into great coaching and building a successful program. Ask your child if it is fun to go to practice and then lose every game. I bet the answer is no, so quit saying that it doesn’t matter if you win or lose. It does matter and don’t be ashamed if you are a winner. Be proud.

That is what hard work and dedication can do for you in sports and in life. Be a winner.

On a happy note, Spring Training Opens this week!
