Ferguson-Florissant Earns School Bus Safety Award

The Ferguson-Florissant School District’s bus maintenance program has been praised as “exemplary” by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

The state cited the district’s 15 consecutive years of earning a 90 percent or higher grade on bus safety inspections. Just two of the state’s 524 school districts earned that distinction at this year’s Missouri Association for Pupil Transportation convention.

For the 2007-08 school year, the district received a 100 percent grade for the 82 buses in its fleet, meaning that every vehicle passed inspection the first time.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol completes a safety inspection of every school bus in each district’s fleet. A district’s score is based on the percentage of buses passing inspection the first time.

Ferguson-Florissant owns its school buses and all drivers and technicians are district employees.

“This award recognizes the district’s commitment to safety and the skill and commitment of every employee in the transportation department,” said Jim Troxel, district director of transportation.
