The Standards in Jazz Christmas Concert

The Florissant Civic Center Theatre is hosting the Standards in Jazz Christmas Concert on Dec. 13 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $28 for adults and $26 for seniors and students.

The concert is a tribute to Ross Gentile. After a successful career as a promotion director for A&M Records where he worked with artists like Frank Sinatra, Gentil returne dto St. Louis to host the “Standards In Jazz” program on WSIE for 15 years, at one point working on-air for the station seven days a week. He also worked as a DJ for WIBV, KSHE and WZQZ, and was a regular presence as an emcee at live jazz events in the St. Louis area including events at the Civic Center Theatre. He died in February 2013 at age 60.

Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville played host to the first tribute concert honoring Gentile last September. In this Christmas concert, several musicians and vocalists have been invited to perform in tribute to this “homegrown” national champion and force behind the rowth and development of many professional jazz musicians.
