North County Christian School students, parents, and staff came together Nov. 7 for their annual Crusaders Serve Day.

The Crusaders teamed up with Kids Against Hunger and Global Compassion Ministries to package 10,000 nutritional meals for families and kids in Haiti as well as 1,890 meals for the homeless of St. Louis. NCCS students raised $3600 to cover the purchase and shipping expenses.

As if packaging 10,000+ meals wasn’t enough, the Crusaders also collected nearly 1000 canned good and hygiene items which were distributed through local church pantries.

Crusaders Serve Day has become an annual event at North County Christian School, whose mission is “to serve the hungry.” School staff as well as students and their parents worked together to pack, seal and ship more than 10,000 meals to starving families in Haiti.

“The fervor of the students, faculty, staff and parents at North County Christian School is evident in their dedication to realizing the school’s mission to serve those in need of food and the essentials of daily life,” said Mayor Schneider.

Crusaders Serve Day is part of the school’s support of Kids Against Hunger, a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to providing food for starving and malnourished children and their families, both locally and internationally. Kids Against Hunger meals are prepared easily by cooking bag contents in boiling water.

One cup of the Kids Against Hunger rice casserole each day provides all the essential requirements for development and growth. Each package of six servings can feed an average family for one day.

All North County Christian School staff and students, along with many parents and Mayor Schneider, worked in shifts throughout the morning to pack as many meals as possible. Cost for providing food and shipping for the meals is $3,000, or $10 per student.
