Lu Lu’s Chinese Express, Jimmy John’s Subs Coming to Florissant

Two new popular restaurants will soon be coming to Florissant. The Florissant City Council last week held public hearing in which they heard from the two restaurants’ spokesmen and gave first readings to two bills for approval.

One of the two new restaurants coming to the Florissant area is Lu Lu’s Chinese express, which has recently been voted best Chinese restaurant in St. Louis by Sauce Magazine for the seventh straight year. The restaurant will be a sit-down and carry-out restaurant that will be located at 8461 North Lindbergh. Zun Xing Li, one of the spokesman for the family owned business, expressed appreciation and talked about the choice of moving a restaurant into the Florissant Community.

“We are very thrilled and excited to be a part of the Florissant Community. We will continue to strive to provide our award winning healthy and fresh authentic cuisine to the community. Having the choice of a balance meal on the go is one of our priories. We even have a partnership with Dierberg’s grocery store to sell our quick meals,” Zun Xing Li said. Lu Lu’s hours of operation will be from 9 a.m. until 11 p.m. seven days a week.

The other restaurant making its way into the Florissant area will be the popular sub sandwich franchise of Jimmy Johns. The restaurant will be similar to Lu Lu’s as it will also be a sit-down, and carry-out restaurant, but will also have a drive through. The new location will be at 370 North Highway 67.

“I opened up Jimmy Johns here back in 2007. I have three Restaurants in the St. Louis area including one in the Hazelwood community. I have been trying hard since ’07 to bring a Jimmy Johns to the Florissant area, but things never materialized to allow it to happen. I finally found a great area in Florissant that will be a great spot for Jimmy Johns,” Spokesman Avi Khemlani said.

Other Bills Approved

A bill allowing a permit to Essential Play zone was up for second reading and was passed by the council, but a few councilmen did have concerns regarding the age range of 13-21 years old for the educational facility.

Two other bills were passed at the meeting. However, the council took some heat from patrons with the passing of these bills. One of them included the council approving $4,000 from the General Revenue Fund to use for installing a new panic button at the receptionist desk inside city hall.

“Why wasn’t this included in the budget report that was issued just a few weeks ago, just seems like you all are spending even more money as the end of the year gets near,” said Kevin O’Donnell, a frequent council critic.

The other bill that the council passed was for authorizing a transfer of $500 from the account “Dues, Travel, and Training”, and $300 from salaries to pay for “Professional Services”. The purpose will be to fund additional Focus mailing expenses. O’Donnell took exception to this bill as well, mentioning the council’s over spending on personal items such as iPad and other technology the council uses. However Councilman Mark Schmidt told O’Donnell that he was off topic, and that if he does not have anything to say regarding the bill then he needs to sit back down. O’Donnell did not initially acknowledge his statement, but then wrapped up what he had to say and took his seat back in the audience.
