Ferguson resident and inspirational singer Peggy Neely-Harris recently took first place the Christian Action Ministries Sixth Annual Sing-off at the Sign & Sound Theatre in Branson. Chosen as one of ten from a field of 75 competitors to participate in the Aug. 31 event, she walked away with the grand prize and the opportunity to perform the next day at Silver Dollar City.
Neely-Harris is also a teaching specialist in drama for St. Louis City and County schools and worked with the Center of Creative Arts (COCA) and the International Institute of St. Louis. In the past she has worked with Young Audiences of St. Louis, Metro Theatre Company and the Muny 1st Stage Touring Company. Her screen credits include roles in American Streetballers at the Mann Chinese Theatre in Hollywood and in the internet film series, CancerCompnaions.org.
Christian Action Ministries (CAM) is a non-profit organization which fights hunger in Taney County with the mission to help people obtain the basic resources of food and to encourage self-sufficiency and independence through neighborly efforts in the community. The purpose of the annual sing-off is to uplift its ministry and its performing artists.
“The work of CAM fits right in with my own vision to volunteer with nonprofit community organizations, women, children and teens,” said Neely-Harris. She will be performing at the “Jammin’ for Jesus” monthly concert series at the Doug Gabriel Theatre, in Branson on Dec. 7 at 2 p.m.
