Rams Recognize Cold Water Elementary As a Character Fitness Model School

Cold Water Elementary School in the Hazelwood School District is being recognized by Character Plus and the St. Louis Rams for implementing character fitness for its students and staff.

Character Plus and the St. Louis Rams mascot “Rampage” will visit Cold Water on Friday, September 12 at 9 a.m. during an all-school assembly. Cold Water will receive a banner, tickets to attend a Rams home game this season, and an invitation to present at the National Character Plus conference.

Cold Water Elementary staff and 15 students helped to build Bear Trail last summer. Bear Trail is an outdoor wood chipped fitness trail at the school. Outdoor equipment including a sit-up bench, a back extension machine, push-up bars and a vertical jump trainer will soon be installed along the trail. Principal Dr. Christa Warner regularly jogs with more than 75 students in the Mileage Club.

“We are excited to have earned the title of being a Character Fitness Model School,” said Warner. “Our goal is to educate the whole child. Having a healthy body and good character is just as important as academics as we prepare our students for life.”

According to Character Plus, Cold Water Elementary School excelled in involving all students and encouraging volunteerism, commitment, individual goal setting and student leadership.

Character Plus is a resource of Education Plus, formerly known as Cooperating School Districts in the St. Louis metro region. The Character Fitness Model School program recognizes schools that have applied character fitness which combines physical exercise, nutrition, health and character development that involves students, staff, and the community.
