Florissant Fine Arts Council Sets Applause/Applause ’08-’09 Season

Florissant Fine Arts Council has announced the Applause/Applause 2008-09 season for shows held at at the Florissant Civic Center Theatre, Parker Road at Waterford Drive. Sunday, Sept. 14 – 7 pm Pianafiddle The sensational musical duo of pianist Lynn Wright and violinist/fiddler and St. Louis native Adam DeGraff bring us an evening of remarkable music crossing all boundaries. These two remarkable musicians blend the traditional with the spontaneous and unwritten for an always fresh perspective on classical, folk, ragtime, and blues.

Friday – Sunday, Oct. 24 – 26 – Friday & Saturday – 8 pm, Saturday & Sunday – 2 pm “Church Basement Ladies” A heavenly and hilarious new musical comedy that’s selling out nationwide! A celebration of the church basement kitchen and the women who work there, Church Basement Ladies is the tale of four women as they organize the food and solve the problems of a Minnesota church. They stave off potential disasters and keep the Pastor in line while thoroughly enjoying, (and tolerating) each other as the true “steel magnolias” of the church

Tuesday, Nov. 18—8 pm “I Love A Piano” A smash hit revue, “I Love A Piano” is an enchanting new musicals journey of seven decades of American history as seen through the hopeful eyes of Irving Berlin. Featuring 64 of his timeless hits, including “Puttin’ On The Ritz”, “There’s No Business Like Show Business” and “White Christmas.”

Sunday, Nov. 30 – 7 pm Ken Page in “Page by Page” Best known for his Broadway turns in Cats, Ain’t Misbehavin’, and The Wiz, St. Louis native Ken Page is one of the nation’s most recognized theater performers. Appearing regularly on the Muny stage as well as directing regional and touring productions, he has had a remarkable and influential career in both the US and London’s West End. His new solo concert, “Page by Page” makes its area debut on our series, recounting his extraordinary career on the stage.

Sunday, Dec. 13 – 8 pm Tony Kenny’s “Christmas Time in Ireland” Visit the Emerald Isle at the most wonderful time of the year – where there is a celebration of family in every home, a candle in every window, and a song in every heart. A dynamic concert of the finest Irish song, dance, music, and laughter, starring Tony Kenny and his troupe of unforgettable Irish performers, you won’t want to miss the warmth and sparkle that is Christmas Time in Ireland.

Saturday, Jan. 17 — 8 pm Robert Robinson and the Twin Cities Community Gospel Choir The Twin Cities Community Gospel Choir, led by the “Pavarotti of Gospel” Robert Robinson, has been making headlines for their soul-shaking three-part harmonies and uplifting spirit. A multi-cultural choir of varying backgrounds and ages, the choir brings audiences to their feet through their celebration of music of spirituality.

Monday, Feb. 16—8 pm River City Ramblers Long a favorite on our Applause/Applause series, we are pleased to welcome the return of the River City Ramblers! Relive the Golden Age of Dixieland music…and relive a simpler time through an evening of authentic Riverboat Dixieland jazz! city.”

Friday, Feb. 27 – 8 pm Cashore Marionnettes “Life in Motion”
A stunning work of art and performance! Joseph Cashore, an award-winning visual artist and puppeteer, has been designing and performing his unique art form for more than 30 years. He has developed this sensational new work about our perceptions of ordinary life through the finest details.

Friday, March 27 – 8 pm Golden Dragon Acrobats Back by popular demand! Direct from Hebei, China, the Golden Dragon Acrobats have toured all 50 states and 65 countries to perform astounding physical feats and celebrate the rich tradition of Chinese culture.
