Racing Suffers Loss of Driver, Rams Start Season

Everyone knows at certain times of the year that you can expect me to write about specific sports; that is pretty much a given. Well, today the same holds true. With August comes training camp for the Rams and the full swing of NASCAR.

Lets start with car racing as one of the most famous drivers in the world hit and killed another driver on the track and I do mean on the track. There are so many ways to look at this situation and it depends on which set of eyes you choose.

The two racers were racing on track when there was an accident. One driver, 20-year-old Kevin Ward, Jr.,  got out of the car (which is a no no in racing) and walked down the track and was pointing at Tony Stewart. I have not seen the video of the incident but by what I have heard Stewart slightly gunned the motor causing the car to slide right and run over Kevin.

Many are saying that it was dark, as most small town tracks are at night, and that he had on a black racing suit. Dirt tracks are dusty and drivers are wearing a face shield. Did Tony intentionally do this? We will never know. Only Tony knows. Going from what I have heard, it sounds like maybe he gunned it a bit and tried to maybe scare Kevin or fling dirt on him.

At any cost, Kevin lost his in the span of about 5 seconds. I always talk about how every decision we make makes a difference in life. The decision to get out of the car and make a spectacle was a bad one. In his mind, Kevin might of thought “I get out and yell at Tony and I get on Sportscenter.”

There are so many unknowns. My point is that in life you must stop and think for a second about the consequences of every decision on you and others no matter how large or how small they may be.

On to the Rams, I did not get to see the entire game against New Orleans, but I was fairly impressed with their first performance, although the turnout for the game was dismal. I have no idea why the Rams don’t just do something like $10 tickets for everyone to fill the place up. This would give people like me a chance to take the entire family to a game. It would also fill the place up for TV. It was almost embarrassing to see the stands.

I was most impressed by Sean Hill, the team’s backup Quarterback. Sam better watch his back. This guy moved the ball up and down the field like a seasoned starter. Either way, I am looking forward to football this year.

Every year, I predict a record for the team and I am horribly wrong so this year I am going to say 16-0. This way I can say I am totally on the bandwagon for the team. The Rams needs to have a good season this year. As I mentioned last week in my column, I think that this will be a pivotal year when deciding what will happen to this franchise in the future.
