It’s that time of the year, the sun is out and the temps are on the rise and that means a couple of things: either sitting at the ballpark watching the Birds or sitting next to some ice and watching the Blues.
Of course there’s also TV.
I always talk about teams needing to be on a streak at any given time; well I didn’t mean a losing streak. I am really worried about this Blues — could they have hit a bad stride at a worse time of the year about a week before the playoffs. The even worse news is that now with that losing streak they will play the defending Stanley Cup Champs the Chicago Blackhawks in the first round.
I look at this in two ways, either they will be tossed out of the playoffs in the first round ending a fabulous season or this will be the series that defines this team as for what they stood for all year. Remember out of something bad, there always comes something good. The Blues lost six forwards in the last week of the season including T.J. Oshie and David Backes.
If I had to make a prediction right now, I will say that they will overcome the odds and beat the Blackhawks to move on but the emotional effect will take its toll in the second series and they will lose. I hope I am wrong; it would be great to see a cup here in the Lou.
Hope Ballpark Villages Gets Off-Season Fans
Have you been to a Cardinals game yet and experienced Ballpark Village? Unfortunately I have not but I have heard from many that have and said that it is unbelievable. They said that there is something for everyone and I do mean everyone, from the huge TV and the Fox Sports center to the outfits or lack of them at one of the clubs. Overall it sounds like it is what the area needed in terms of being an experience when you go to a ballgame.
Before, when you drove down and parked and went to the game and then there were a few places to go afterwards. But now everyone continues to support the area, it can be a thriving step for downtown St. Louis. I worry about what will happen after the season during the winter months, will the clientele still come down without the baseball venue? I certainly hope so, St. Louis is known for its baseball and to have this experience surround the game itself is wonderful.
Also with the warmer weather, I am hearing everybody say this is the year I am getting in shape. You see every athlete or so called want to be athlete running in the subdivisions. Some just have on something they threw on to work out in and then there is the one with the matching headband and shoes with spandex from head to toe.
Usually, something has to be neon, whether it is the shoes or socks or some piece of clothing, and of course the wires sticking out of their apparel hooked to their favorite tunes. All I can say is whatever you wear congratulations on getting out and doing something.
Every year, I say this is the year for the 6 pack abs, 18 years of writing this column and never once have I made it even close. I start and then I stop, life gets in the way with a family and work. Remember do what you love and love what you do and everything will be okay. Life is hard work and so is getting into shape. Make this year, your year.
