Convenience Store, Party Center, Auto Garage, Caterer

The cold weather may make it seem like spring is far, far away, but the last Florissant City Council showed otherwise. New businesses often open in the spring, and the four public hearings the council held for new businesses signal that winter is coming to an end. In addition to the four new businesses, one existing business came to the council requesting permission for exterior renovations.
The first public hearing was for a request for a special use permit for Parsons Convenience Store and Gas Station for a store at 12785 New Halls Ferry Road. There was very little discussion at the hearing. Councilman Mark Schmidt asked Tom Parsons what he planned on doing with a warehouse behind the convenience store and gas station, and Parsons said he was currently using it for offices and storage.
The second hearing was for a request for Flipz Party Center for a party center at 8 Paddock Hills Shopping Center. Shirley Gordon would run the center and spoke to the council. She said the center would be a rental space for parties. It would be open from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Gordon said the center would be available to anyone who wanted to rent it for an event or party. The center would help plan the party and provide decorations if requested.
Another hearing was held for Auto Tire, which is requesting permission for an automotive service garage at 530 N. Hwy. 67. George Jarrett spoke for Auto Tire.
Finally, there was a hearing for a special use permit for Food for Hire, a catering business that would like to operate out of 1927-1929 Washington Road. Lavina McCoy spoke to the council about the businesss. She said it would be used as a catering kitchen, preparing food for delivery to other locations. She said that she caters for several clients already and this kitchen would allow her to expand her business.
In between the hearings for new businesses, the council held a hearing for Premier Auto at 2420Rear N. Hwy 67. This existing business was requesting permission to make some exterior renovations to the business.
In other matters, the council continued a bill regarding a boundary adjustment. Property owned by the Special School District on Derhake Road near Dunegant Park is partially in the city and partially in unincorporated county. The Special School District wants to build across the property line and is asking for a boundary adjustment so that the new building will be in the city of Florissant.
The council also passed a resolution supporting the city’s applications to the East-West Gateway Council of Government Transportation Improvement Program for fiscal years 2015-2018. The three project the city is requesting are funding of the Old Town Street and Storm Water Drainage Improvement, replacement of the St. Anthony Bridge over Fountain Creek and replacement of the pedestrian traffic signal at Robinwood Elementary.
