Get your new year off to a healthy start by signing up for the 2014 St. Louis Lose to Win Challenge. SSM Health Care – St. Louis is teaming up with Curves, YMCA, the American Heart Association, and Charter to offer this 12-week weight-loss challenge designed to help you shed pounds, stay motivated and find the healthier you inside.
“One of the best ways to lose weight is to become part of a formal program in which you schedule regular weigh-ins,” says Mario Morales, MD, medical director of the SSM Weight Loss Institute. “Having that support helps you remain focused and committed to the behavioral changes that lead to real weight loss.”
The challenge begins with kick-off events from 1 – 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan.11, at SSM St. Clare Health Center in Fenton, and 1 – 4 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 12, at SSM DePaul Health Center in Bridgeton. At the kick-off events, contestants will learn all the program details, be assigned an identification number, have the opportunity to have a complimentary blood pressure and BMI/body fat check, learn about helpful resources, and meet dietitians and fitness experts and other healthcare professionals.
Each week contestants will be able to track their success, along with other participants at www.losetowinstl.com. At the end of the 12 weeks, the top 5 men and the top 5 women with the highest percentage of total weight loss will be awarded prizes at a celebration event. Contestants who complete the program, weighing in at least 10 out of 12 weeks, also will receive a prize.
Participants must pre-register for the challenge by calling 314-SSM-DOCS (776-3627) or visiting www.losetowinstl.com. Phone lines and online registration opened on Thursday, Jan. 2.
Space is limited to the first 1,000 participants. During pre-registration, you will be asked to choose a kick-off location and a one-hour block of time to attend. Participants must be 18 years of age or older. There is a $10 registration fee that will be collected at the kick-off event (cash or checks only, please).
