Girls Missing Since October 2nd Located Unharmed

Since October 2nd, the Florissant Police Department has invested over 300 “man hours” in attempting to locate Dominique Cherry-Jones and D’Shay Knox, who ran away together. The Florissant Police Department is happy to announce that the two juveniles were located at a family member’s house in North St. Louis. The juveniles’ families have been notified, and the juveniles have been transported back to the Florissant Police Department for further investigation.

The police department issued a statement regarding the girls:

There have been many questions as to why an Amber Alert was not issued in this incident. The Florissant Police Department followed the nationwide criteria in determining that an Amber Alert was not applicable in this incident. Failure to comply with the Amber Alert criteria risks the public to being desensitized to these vital alerts, which are intended for abducted and endangered children. It should be noted that at no time did the Florissant Police Department believe that either of these juveniles were abducted or were in danger. The Florissant Police Department consulted with and used the resources of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children during the investigation.

The Florissant Police Department investigates over 100 “runaway juveniles” each year, and we recognize the family’s desire to get their loved one back home-as we do as well; however, it is important in all cases that we receive factual information rather than tips fueled by emotions.

The Florissant Police Department thanks the public and the juveniles’ families for their assistance, and the investigation into why they ran away is continuing so such an event does not occur in the future.
