Wildcats, Titans Softball Teams Get District Top Seeds, Begin Thursday

High School Softball District Tournaments got underway last Wednesday, Oct. 9, however, the Hazelwood West Wildcats and the Trinity Catholic Titans each got a bye as being top seeds in their districts and will open Thursday, Oct. 10.

So do district hosts McCluer North and Lutheran North. Both are number two seeds.

Hazelwood West plays Thursday at 4 p.m. in Class Four, District Six against the winner of last Wednesday’s Riverview Gardens-McCluer game. A published report said the game will be played at Hazelwood West while the Missouri State High School Activities Association web site said the game will be played at McCluer North. Prior to Oct. 5 Hazelwood West won the Suburban North Conference title with a 7-0 round-robin record and was 14-8 overall.

Trinity Catholic begins Class Three, District Five Thursday at 3:45 at home against McCluer South-Berkeley or Vashon, and that game was played last Wednesday. The home field is behind the former Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church and School now called Christ; Light of the Nations Catholic School. As of Oct. 5 Trinity Catholic is 3-2 in the Archdiocesan Athletic Association Small Division and is 7-14 overall.

McCLUER NORTH hosts their Class Four, District Six game Thursday, 4 p.m., against the winner of last Wednesday’s

Hazelwood Central-Hazelwood East game. Prior to the Oct. 7 home game against

Orchard Farm McCluer North, who finished Suburban North play with a 4-2 record, was 9-9 overall.

LUTHERAN NORTH hosts their Class Three, District Five game Thursday, 3:45, against the winner of last Wednesday’s Jennings-Miller Career Academy game. Prior to playing at Metro League rival Lutheran South, Oct. 7, Lutheran North was 1-3 in the Metro League, 2-9 overall and that does not include a possible Metro League game against Villa Duchesne that was scheduled for Sep. 23 but there was no reported scoring.   Meanwhile JENNINGS, despite being seeded third was the only team in Class Three, District Five with a winning record prior to Oct. 7 of 9-8 but was 3-4 in the Suburban East Conference.

District Finals are scheduled for this Friday, Oct. 11. Class Four, District Six will play their final 4 p.m. at McCluer North while Class Three, District Five will play their final 3:45 at Lutheran North.

Sectionals will be played Oct. 16 with the winners from District Five in both Class Four and Class Three hosting the winners from District Six. Quarterfinals are Oct. 19 at sites to be determined and the State Semifinals and Finals are Oct. 25-26 at Killian Softball Complex, Springfield.
