The Ferguson-Florissant School District Board of Education honored the achievements of students and staff at its meeting on Oct. 9.
“The Ferguson-Florissant School District is proud of the achievements of its many talented students and staff,” said Supt. Art McCoy. “We are pleased to acknowledge their efforts and share their successes with the community.”
The following students and staff were honored:
Cross Keys Middle School student Joseph “Gus” Kickham was named District III Teen Volunteer of the Year by the Missouri Health Care Association (MHCA). Kickham received the award in recognition of his dedication and contributions to the long term care industry, which he serves as a volunteer at Delmar Gardens North in Florissant.
Combs Elementary School fifth-grade teacher Mrs. Christine Ries received the 2013 Outstanding Elementary School Science Teacher of Missouri award from the Science Teachers of Missouri, a state chapter of the National Science Teachers Association. Mrs. Ries received the honor for her outstanding commitment and ongoing contributions to science education.
Seven educators in the Ferguson-Florissant School District have been selected by the Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc.’s Alpha Zeta Chapter to receive the organization’s 2013 “Apple for the Teacher” award. The award is given each November to outstanding educators throughout the United States during American Education Week. Honorees selected are: Carla Baranowski of Vogt Elementary School; Tiffany Blackmon of Duchesne Elementary School; Kimaada Malkia Ellison of Lee Hamilton Elementary School; Carolyn Goodwin of Parker Road Elementary School; Catherine Holway of Combs Elementary School and Eugene Simpson and Yvette Staples, both of McCluer South-Berkeley High School.
