Rains Dampen Prep Sports Activities; West Girls, Central Boys Win in Track

Rains for the past two weeks, which have resulted in flooding in the Meramec River area, have put a damper on high school spring sports activities, resulting in a large number of postponements.

Last Saturday, however, the Suburban North Conference Track & Field Relays took place at McCluer High School. Hazelwood Central boys and Hazelwood West girls each won their combined varsity and junior varsity meet but the team scores and event results were not available at press time. The only event where puddles affect the meet was in the discus area, especially for those measuring the throws on what was a cold, windy and damp day.

In Boys Golf winners reported prior to March 31 include McCluer North (March 25), Hazelwood West (March 25) and Lutheran North (March 28). In Girls Lacrosse Hazelwood Central is 0-1 prior to March 25 and Hazelwood West is 0-1 prior to March 26 while in Boys Lacrosse Hazelwood Central is 0-1 prior to March 25. In Boys Tennis, prior to March 31, Hazelwood West has a 7-0 win over Ritenour, Hazelwood East is 1-0, Pattonville is 2-1 while Hazelwood Central and McCluer North are each 0-1.

In Baseball Hazelwood Central, Hazelwood East, Hazelwood West and McCluer North each has a Suburban North win while McCluer, Pattonville, Ritenour and Riverview Gardens each has a Suburban North loss. Overall records prior to March 31 are Hazelwood Central 2-0, Hazelwood East 1-1, Hazelwood West 1-0, Lutheran North 2-2, McCluer 0-4, McCluer North 2-4, North County Christian 0-1, Pattonville, 0-2, Ritenour, 2-2, Riverview Gardens 0-3 and Trinity Catholic, 1-1.

In Girls Soccer rain postponed several Suburban North Tournament games and the final round has yet to be played prior to March 31. Overall records, prior to March 31 include Hazelwood Central 4-0, Hazelwood East 0-3, Hazelwood West 1-2-1, defending Class Two State Runner Up Incarnate Word Academy 3-0, Lutheran North 0-1, McCluer 1-1, McCluer North 1-4, defending Suburban North champion Pattonville 2-0, Ritenour 1-1-1, Riverview Gardens 2-2 and Trinity Catholic 0-3.

In Boys Volleyball, a sport played indoors, overall records prior to March 31 include North County Technical 0-2, Pattonville 0-1, Ritenour 2-2 and Trinity Catholic 1-1. Games that were to be played prior to Thursday include Ritenour at Trinity (March 31) North Tech at St. John (April 1) and Trinity at Westminster Christian (April 2). Thursday North Tech visits Granite City at 5 p.m. while Saturday Trinity is at the Vianney Tournament, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
