The Dining Divas mixed things up this\u00a0month.\u00a0 Instead of our normal first Thursday of the month dining out extravaganza, we put down our forks and picked up our paintbrushes and discovered our inner da Vincis and Monets.\u00a0 It was a Sunday afternoon and a great day for Painting with a Twist.<\/p>\n

Leaving our inhibitions at home and being open to the idea that we possibly could be creative, the Divas decided to partake in a group painting project.\u00a0 The Obsessed Diva had participated in this sort of activity a few times before and convinced the ladies that it would be a blast.\u00a0 After disregarding the \u201cI can\u2019t do it\u201d comments and the \u201cis this paint by numbers\u201d questions, she assured them that they\u2019d be pleased with the results.<\/p>\n

Located in a studio off Olive Road in\u00a0Creve Coeur, Painting with a Twist is painting for the non-artist.\u00a0 Although the instructors take their jobs seriously, there\u2019s nothing serious about the sessions, except for your need to have fun, laugh at the process, and leave with a piece of art that you\u2019re amazed you completed.<\/p>\n

Using the democratic process, the Dining Divas voted on a painting that we liked and then booked a private party at the studio.\u00a0 Each student is provided a blank canvas, paint, paintbrushes and step-by-step instructions from a teacher to create our own masterpieces.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve heard \u201clife imitates art\u201d, but I believe \u201cart imitates life\u201d.\u00a0 First of all, the Intellectual Diva inundated the teacher with many questions.\u00a0 No surprise there.\u00a0 The Attention-Deficit Diva\u2019s nerves had her sweating through the process.\u00a0 Again, no surprise at all.\u00a0 The Colorful Diva showed up late as usual but got herself caught up and finished on time.\u00a0 Just like at every other Dining Diva outing.\u00a0 And the Classy, Stylish Diva\u2019s finished product was perfect.\u00a0 Of course it was.\u00a0 We\u2019d expect nothing else.<\/p>\n

The Rule-Follower Diva diverted from the\u00a0original and shocked herself by adding her own personal touches.\u00a0 The Reassuring Diva outsmarted everyone and personalized her painting for a family member so \u201cthey\u2019d have<\/em> to display it\u201d.\u00a0 Lucky for them, her\u2019s turned out great.\u00a0 The Anti-Craft Diva enjoyed herself, but said next time we do a painting project, she\u2019ll go shoe shopping.<\/p>\n

It wouldn\u2019t be the Dining Divas if we\u00a0didn\u2019t enjoy some food too.\u00a0 We all brought snacks and treats and drinks to share.\u00a0 Painting with a Twist is a \u201cbring your own beverages\u201d (and food) kind of place.\u00a0 It makes for a fabulous group outing.\u00a0 Each month, they post the featured paintings of the days of the month.\u00a0 You can participate with a couple friends or you can reserve a date on your own and pick out your own painting.\u00a0 You need a minimum of 10 friends to do this.<\/p>\n

Vino Van Gogh<\/strong> is another painting activity offered in the area.\u00a0 With this program, instead of going to a studio, featured paintings are done at different restaurants all around St. Louis.\u00a0 It\u2019s the same process, just not a BYOB.\u00a0 You can order food and drinks at the restaurants while you paint, or you can choose to just focus on the process.\u00a0 However, a little wine seems to make the paintbrush steadier.\u00a0 With Vino Van Gogh, you not only get to explore your creative side, you get to try out different restaurants.<\/p>\n

Perhaps a couple Divas showed perfection\u00a0and grace like the famous artist Raphael, but most of our masterpieces would fall in the \u201cAbstract\u201d Era.\u00a0 Artists are courageous people.\u00a0 They put their work out there for people to judge, and that takes a lot of guts.\u00a0 It took a lot of guts for the Divas to try out painting.\u00a0 Some of us should stick with painting walls in our houses, and some of us should stick to shoe shopping.\u00a0 But all of us were courageous as well as smart enough to know that the Dining Divas are much better at eating out than at being artists.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
