The Maryland Heights and Hazelwood Police Departments, with support from the Pattonville Fire Department, are hosting the 7th Annual Polar Plunge, which will be held on Feb.\u00a0 23 at Creve Coeur Lake. Brave men and women from around the area will don costumes and swimwear and take “polar” dips into the lake.\u00a0 All proceeds from the cold event benefit the athletes of Special Olympics Missouri.\u00a0 This year\u2019s goal is to raise $115,600.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Polar Plunge is open to anyone 10 years of age or older. The event will take place at the Tremayne Shelter at Creve Coeur Lake. Registration begins at noon and the Plunge starts promptly at 2:00 p.m.\u00a0 No wet suits allowed, and shoes are required.<\/p>\n

Each participant is required to raise a minimum of $75 to participate in the Polar Plunge. All participants will receive an official commemorative shirt and will receive additional incentives for reaching fundraising goals at $300, $500, $1,000 and $2,000 levels.<\/p>\n

Day-of registration is available, but commemorative shirts are guaranteed for participants that pre-register by February 6, 2013. Day-of registrants will also receive shirts; however, the requested size may not be available.<\/p>\n

Registration is available online at www.somo.org\/plunge<\/a>. Paper registration forms are also available at the SOMO St. Louis Metro Area Office and all Missouri Shop \u2018n Save stores. Mail or deliver pre-registration forms and the minimum $75 contribution to Special Olympics Missouri Plunge, 2945 South Brentwood Blvd. St. Louis, MO 63144.<\/p>\n

Prizes will be awarded to Top Individual Fundraiser (1st, 2nd and 3rd), Top Fundraising School , Top Fundraising Team and the Most Spirited team.<\/p>\n
