The Dining Divas Delight in Christmas<\/h1>\n

At one point, I actually thought that I could have written this before the Dining Divas outing this December.\u00a0 Every year, it\u2019s similar.\u00a0 We eat, drink, and are merry at a Diva home.\u00a0 Every year, we play an ugly game of \u201crob your neighbor\u201d and someone leaves with a great gift, and the rest of us leave with envy and plenty of presents to \u201cdonate\u201d again.\u00a0 Every year, we shower each other with small acts or gifts of kindness and motivation.\u00a0 Every year, we join together to celebrate the Christmas season and glory in our friendships.\u00a0 But this year was not like every year.<\/p>\n

This year, we missed the Occasional Divas.\u00a0 This year, the Outgoing Diva had become the Missing Diva as sadness had kept her from joining us the last few months.\u00a0 As she dealt with the loss of a parent, we prayed for her to find peace and for us to have our friend return to our outings.\u00a0 Every other year, she would have been delighted to join in the celebration, but this year, she wasn\u2019t herself.\u00a0 We were so grateful she joined us and were glad to see her big smile and strong laugh return.<\/p>\n

This year, the Divas Christmas Party fell on the same day as the tragedy in Newtown.\u00a0 It was tough for all of us to get into a festive mood.\u00a0 In place of the Christmas music playing in the background, we turned on the TV to find out the latest reports.\u00a0 The\u00a0 Stay-At-Home Diva shared the minute-by-minute news she\u2019d been following throughout the day.\u00a0 The Educator Diva struggled as we discussed \u201cwhat if\u201d.\u00a0 Feelings of disbelief and sorrow surrounded us.\u00a0 And guilt.\u00a0 Should we be celebrating at this time?<\/p>\n

Tragic events like these remind us how lucky we are and make us even more\u00a0grateful.\u00a0 How lucky we are to have had each other to lean on as we discussed the heartbreaking outcome of the day.<\/p>\n

And still, we ate too much and some of us drank too much, as we always do.\u00a0 Eventually we\u2019ll get this Divas Christmas dinner right and only eat dessert as we\u2019re always too full from the main course to enjoy the sweets.<\/p>\n

And still, we played \u201crob your neighbor\u201d.\u00a0 If I hadn\u2019t witnessed the game myself, I would have assumed a couple participants cheated as they always seem to have a pile of gifts in front of themselves.\u00a0\u00a0 The mound of excessive gifts are thanks to the Charitable Diva who seems to clean out her garage every year before the party and brings bags of \u201cfabulous\u201d gifts.\u00a0 Somehow the \u201cnot-so-appropriate\u201d or \u201cgod-awful\u201d gifts end up in a Diva front yard.<\/p>\n

And still, we treated each other with special little presents and words of compassion and friendship.\u00a0 As well, we continued our \u201ccharitable\u201d aspect of the evening, a tradition we\u2019ve done for years.\u00a0 This year, the Dining Divas created beautiful blankets that we like to think of as \u201cmasterpieces.\u201d\u00a0 We helped each other complete a pile of them to donate to the military through Operation Homefront.<\/p>\n

As we worked on the blankets, the Attention-Deficit Diva stopped paying attention after about five minutes.\u00a0 The Draw-Me-A-Picture Diva complained that there were too many rules to making them.\u00a0 And the Perfectionist Diva made the rest of us look lame as she so swiftly and artistically completed her part of the project.<\/p>\n

And still, it was fun.\u00a0 On such a tragic day, what a way to end it!\u00a0 And we can wait for next year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
