--smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 121\/150;\" \/><\/a>By Lisa Kampeter<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Typically, the Dining Divas forego franchise restaurants in favor of locally-owned, independent places.\u00a0 But a new restaurant had opened up at an old familiar address, and\u00a0we had to check it out.<\/p>\n<p>Hoping the restaurant was as good as its North County counterpart, the Dining Divas chose Massa\u2019s on New Town Blvd \u00a0for this month\u2019s outing.\u00a0 This location has struck out several times with other eating establishments.\u00a0 In recent years, Big Muddy was located there, but much to my chagrin, it didn\u2019t last.\u00a0 Then it reopened but only for a short time.<\/p>\n<p>Big Muddy\u2019s food and atmosphere was what attracted me the most to it.\u00a0 It favored a more mature crowd that preferred music ranging from Michael Buble to Bon Jovi rather than Kanye West to Theory of a Dead Man.\u00a0\u00a0 Tattoos, piercings, and grunge were non-existent, thankfully.\u00a0 And thankfully, the change-over to Massa\u2019s didn\u2019t change any of that.\u00a0 And what\u2019s even better, it\u2019s non-smoking.\u00a0 In St. Charles County!<\/p>\n<p>We were happy to have the Frankenfoot Diva join us.\u00a0 Her surgery was a success, and she was back to work after a couple weeks of bed rest.\u00a0 She shared with us her frightening and painful story of how she jammed the pin sticking out of her toe and had to have it realigned.\u00a0 She also shared with us her frightening photos of her foot post-surgery.\u00a0 Definitely not dinner appropriate.<\/p>\n<p>Our Book-Loving Diva showed pictures of the themed book-club parties of which she\u2019s been a part.\u00a0 These girls are creative!\u00a0 One month, they even had the author of the book they had read participate in their discussion.<\/p>\n<p>We found ourselves trying to create another group outing for the Widowed Divas in the group.\u00a0 We thought maybe they could go by the name \u201cWidow\u2019s Peek\u201d, a safe yet unassuming term for these ladies on the \u201clookout\u201d.\u00a0 We all agree that any man lucky enough to catch these ladies peeking at them should be impressed.<\/p>\n<p>We envied over the Birthday Diva\u2019s Alaskan photo album and her adventures.\u00a0 Only wishing we had been in Alaska, the flaming fireplace in the restaurant couldn\u2019t compete with the cold drafts we felt all night at dinner.<\/p>\n<p>If you love the rich anchovy taste of a Caesar salad, order Massa\u2019s.\u00a0 As well, the Chef Salad with provel-style cheese, hard salami, and the house dressing brought back good memories.<\/p>\n<p>Hesitant to try something different from when she visited other Massa\u2019s locations, the Teaching Diva enjoyed the Baked Mostaccioli.\u00a0 The Indecisive Divas debated over the Cannelloni and the Chicken Bianco and decided to share them both.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The cannelloni with meat, cheese, spinach, and mushrooms gave them their pasta fix.\u00a0 The lightly breaded chicken with a mushroom and wine sauce satisfied their desire for protein.\u00a0 And the leftovers the next day were even better.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s always a treat to get together with the Dining Divas.\u00a0 It\u2019s especially cool when we\u2019re treated with cupcakes and ice cream cake.\u00a0 That\u2019s what happens when a Dining Divas outing falls on a Diva birthday.\u00a0 Desserts a la Divas.<\/p>\n<p>If it was up to me, Massa\u2019s is welcome to make New Town Blvd their new permanent address.\u00a0 That is assuming the atmosphere doesn\u2019t change.\u00a0 Our night there, a one-man band entertained us with classic rock music.\u00a0 Fortunately, we were sitting across the room from him so the music wasn\u2019t overwhelming.<\/p>\n<p>The d\u00e9cor gets five stars with classic pictures and rich motifs.\u00a0 We loved our food and ate too much.\u00a0 And there may have been a tattoo or two (even at our table), but it was all very comfortable and appropriate.\u00a0 Now, we were gone before 9 o\u2019clock so they may flip over the chairs and dance on the tables after that, but that\u2019s okay by me.\u00a0 This mature Diva will be happily in bed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Lisa Kampeter Typically, the Dining Divas forego franchise restaurants in favor of locally-owned, independent places.\u00a0 But a new restaurant had opened up at an old familiar address, and\u00a0we had to check it out.
