“Bommarito is making a significant investment in Hazelwood with the new Honda and Volkswagen dealerships at I-270 and Lindbergh. This is great news for Hazelwood,” said Mayor T. R. Carr at a special city council meeting last week.<\/p>\n

At the meeting final approval was given to the Bommarito auto dealership firm for their proposed Volkswagen facility after several changes to the special land use permit.<\/p>\n

Bommarito also plans to establish a Honda dealership west of their Volkswagen facility to be located on the 14 acre site west of Big Foot and the standing Trade Center Building, and east of Brookes Park. <\/p>\n

The city council is expected to give final approval of the changes to the special use permit for the Honda dealership at the Dec. 5 meeting. <\/p>\n

The change granted will allow an 8 foot privacy fence across the rear of the property on the line between the dealerships and adjacent residents\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 properties. <\/p>\n

In the past residents living south of the 14 acre tract used the area as an entrance and egress from their properties onto Brookes Dr. Due to new plans, they won\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t be able to get onto the property, but an agreeable arrangement was made recently after several meetings with city officials and Bommarito staff.<\/p>\n

The new site plans will allow for a drainage swell along the rear of the property which was made according to MSD requirements. Because of the swell and the fence there can be no access or egress for the neighboring residents. <\/p>\n

Jerry Eickel, the spokesman for Bommarito, said, after the meeting “The city and the neighbors have been working together; we have made a further improvement on a great plan. We (Bommarito) are excited to be in Hazelwood.”<\/p>\n

IN OTHER MATTERS, the council gave final reading to a bill granting a special land use permit to Matrix Packaging Co. to manufacture plastic products in the Duke Lindbergh Distribution Building at 5801 N. Lindbergh Blvd.<\/p>\n

The 528,000 square foot building is located on the southwest corner of Lindbergh and McDonnell boulevards; Matrix will occupy 150,013 square feet.
\n At the previous council meeting Ryan Hodges, representing Duke Realty, said Matrix plans to hire 200 employees divided into two shifts. He pointed out that Matrix officials have stated that their manufacturing process does not create any objectionable noise, odor, dust or smoke. <\/p>\n

After the meeting Mayor Carr commented, “The investment by Matrix is another step forward for the city of Hazelwood.” <\/p>\n
