Schneider and Chief William Karabas want to let the citizens of Florissant know that the remnants of Hurricane Issac are forecasted to move across the region over Labor Day weekend.\u00a0 The rain may be heavy at times on Friday night and Saturday as the center of the tropical system moves northeast across Missouri and Illinois.\u00a0 The National Weather Service has predicted rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches possible with locally heavy amounts.<\/p>\n<p>The rain has the potential to cause flash flooding and overcharged sanitary sewer mains.\u00a0 While we do not expect a flooding event similar to the 2008 flooding resulting from Hurricane Ike, the City is taking precautions to prepare for such an event.<\/p>\n<p>The Street and Engineering Departments are conducting visual inspections to check for blockages on sewer inlets, drainage ditches, culverts and bridges.\u00a0 Obvious blockages will be cleared by City forces.\u00a0 If you observe a blocked sewer inlet, drainage ditch, culvert or bridges please contact the Street Department at (314) 839-7652.\u00a0 Additionally, the Street Department is stockpiling sand and sand bags should the forecast worsen.<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few tips to prepare you for the potential of heavy rainfall:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Check gutters, down spouts and yard drains for blockage and clear any accumulated debris from them.\u00a0 Ensure downspouts discharge away from foundation walls.<\/li>\n<li>Limit showering and laundry, or any other water intensive activity during periods of heavy rain. If the sanitary main is overcharged this additional water may back up into your home.<\/li>\n<li>Relocate any valuable items from basement floors to higher locations.<\/li>\n<li>Do not drive through flooded roads.<\/li>\n<li>Monitor weather reports via TV, radio, internet, etc.<\/li>\n<li>If you observe flooding, please contact the Florissant Police Department at 314-831-7000.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>HEAVY RAINFALL FORECASTED FOR OUR AREA STARTING ON FRIDAY AND THROUGH THE WEEKEND \u00a0Mayor Thomas P.
