Kampeter<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This month, the Dining Divas met up at Crushed Red, or as we referred to it, the &#8220;goldmine.\u201d\u00a0 This new dining hot spot is located at Maryland and Meramec in Clayton and this night, and from what I hear, every day and night, they pack them in.<\/p>\n<p>Crushed Red\u2019s menu is simple.\u00a0 Fresh salads, flatbread pizzas, and soup.\u00a0 Aside from a few appetizers, that\u2019s it.\u00a0 On this night, we got there early and were immediately greeted with \u201chave you been here before?\u201d\u00a0 We hadn\u2019t and were directed to proceed to the line to order.\u00a0 Because the line was minimal and because our group wasn\u2019t all there, we picked out a table instead and took some time to study the menu.\u00a0 Then after everyone showed up and after several minutes of chatter, we decided we should probably get in line to order.\u00a0 That was a mistake.<\/p>\n<p>The previous non-existent line was now wrapping around the restaurant.\u00a0 We split up to place our orders so as to not lose our table.\u00a0 As we ordered at the counter, it was very entertaining to watch the \u201cchefs\u201d create our fresh salads with speed and determination.\u00a0 How they ever kept everything straight is a mystery to me.<\/p>\n<p>After quite some time, we all had our orders placed and started enjoying our salads.\u00a0 Every one of us decided to get a salad and a flatbread pizza.\u00a0 After three tries, the Picky Divas finally received their \u201ccreate your own\u201d pizza to their satisfaction.\u00a0 The first one was burnt.\u00a0 The second one wasn\u2019t what they ordered.\u00a0 But the third one was just right.\u00a0 It wasn\u2019t a big deal to them as they were enjoying their salads as they waited for their pizzas.<\/p>\n<p>The way they prepare all of their salads, you\u2019re sure to get a taste of everything in each bite.\u00a0 So fresh.\u00a0 So good.\u00a0 Everything chopped-to-order.\u00a0 The South of the Border Salad with avocado, roasted corn, cheese, Roma tomatoes and tortilla strips was delicious, as was the Chipotle BBQ Chicken Salad with bbq chicken, pepper jack cheese, roasted corn, cilantro and ranch.\u00a0 They have plenty of \u201ccrafted\u201d salads but if you\u2019re more comfortable with creating your own, you can do that too.<\/p>\n<p>Like the salads, Crushed Red has plenty of options for Flatbread Pizzas.\u00a0 If you prefer to play it safe, they have the typical Sausage and Pepperoni or just Cheese styles.\u00a0 Or if you\u2019re slightly more adventurous, you\u2019ll want to try the Mushroom Medley with its mixture of mushrooms baked in a parmesan cream and topped off with mozzarella and goat cheese.\u00a0 Or the Roasted Chicken Gorgonzola with chicken, gorgonzola, red onion, and tomato baked in the parmesan cream.\u00a0 There were so many unique options, it was hard to choose.\u00a0 And the portions made sharing a flatbread and a salad easy.\u00a0 Plus, the prices are fair.<\/p>\n<p>The topic of most of the conversations this evening was not about the intense heat.\u00a0 It was not about summer vacations.\u00a0 It wasn\u2019t even about the Olympics (although we were all in agreement that even if you aren\u2019t a fan of the Olympics, swimmer Ryan Lochte is reason enough to watch).\u00a0 This night\u2019s conversations centered on jobs.\u00a0 One Diva being grateful for having a job.\u00a0 Another Diva being grateful for finally liking her bosses.\u00a0 And another Diva being grateful for being retired and away from the drama.<\/p>\n<p>We also talked about having foot surgery.\u00a0 Thankfully we saved that for after dinner.\u00a0 Not the most pleasant dinner conversation.\u00a0 We\u2019ll miss the Italian Diva as she\u2019ll be laid up and unable to join us next month.\u00a0 We so kindly offered to pick her up and bring her out in a wheelchair.\u00a0 It\u2019s not like we haven\u2019t done that before.\u00a0\u00a0 We all remember what it was like with the High Maintenance Diva and her broken hip several years ago.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s ironic because the restaurant was created to please both people who just want to get a quick bite or those who wanted to have a leisure dining experience.\u00a0 With the popularity of the place, I\u2019m not sure either of those are an option at certain times of the day.<\/p>\n<p>We discussed how we\u2019d make this \u201cgoldmine\u201d better.\u00a0 Note to any visitors, do not go there between 6:30 and 7:30.\u00a0 It was packed and no seats were available.The Divas thought perhaps a wait staff could have alleviated the long lines.\u00a0 The Foodie Diva firmly believed the layout of the restaurant was what the problem was.\u00a0 She would have moved the counter to a different area and redirected the ordering line so that it didn\u2019t run into the dining area.\u00a0 Oh, and we would already expand the building, which would have meant that they\u2019d have to alleviate their tiny parking lot.\u00a0 Having any sort of parking lot available in Clayton is a rarity and a pleasant surprise so maybe that\u2019s not a good idea.<\/p>\n<p>Fresh salads paired with delicious pizza.\u00a0 Not a new idea but it\u2019s definitely different.\u00a0 And being that it\u2019s a \u201cgoldmine,&#8221; I\u2019d say it\u2019s
