Florissant residents dance to Butch Wax and the Hollywoods.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

St. Ferdinand Park was packed full this past Saturday evening Aug. 18. Why? Probably because Butch Wax and the Hollywoods are voted one of the top favorite Missouri bands, and they just so happened to be performing in Florissant that evening for one of the annual\u00a0 Music Under the Stars concerts<\/p>\n

\n

Mayor Tom\u00a0 Schneider made his grand appearance on stage, welcoming the band to\u00a0 the city and, to the crowd; he said \u201cI just want to let you know that city council is taking credit for the weather tonight!\u201d<\/p>\n

Though Schneider got a good laugh from the crowd,, no one could argue the fact that it was an absolutely gorgeous evening for an outdoor concert in the park. The residents of Florissant definitely agreed. It was estimated that 2,000 people crowded the hill in front of the stage.<\/p>\n

Butch Wax and the Hollywoods perform.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The crowd did not stay still in their seats for long, however. Before the sun even had a chance to set, people began gathering in front of the stage and set the mood for the rest of the evening\u2026 dancing. Whether the\u00a0music was slow or fast, the concert quickly turned into a dance party and residents of all ages were joining in the fun.<\/p>\n

The crowd at the concert was estimated over 2,000 strong.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Butch Wax and the Hollywoods certainly put on a fantastic show. The band, which originated 27 years ago, consists of several members who are all from the surrounding area. Larry Smith, who plays saxophone, has been with the band for 14 years. \u201cIt\u2019s great fun. We enjoy making music together. We aren\u2019t all the original members,\u201d and then, chuckling, Smith adds, \u201cthe ladies are new, obviously, because they are half our age.\u201d<\/p>\n

The band had perfect harmony of talent, passion, and a great deal of dedication towards providing top notch entertainment. They even like to take a step back and invite other talent onto the stage with them.<\/p>\n

Also singing with Butch Wax this night was Theo Peoples, a local resident who was a lead singer with both the Four Tops and the Temptations.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

On this particular evening, Theo Peoples joined the band and kept the party going with hits such as \u201cMy Girl\u201d and \u201cAin\u2019t No Woman (Like the One I\u2019ve Got)\u201d. Peoples; also a St. Louis native, has been a lead singer in the classic-era Motown groups for both the\u00a0 Four Tops and The Temptations.<\/p>\n

It was probably safe to say there was also quite a bit of talent displayed on what the crowd turned into a dance floor. Conceert-goers certainly had plenty of fun in St. Ferdinand Park.\u00a0 \u201cWe rock!\u201d Mayor Schneider said, \u201cFlorissant just rocks!\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
