Candidates for State Senator and State Representative will face off in the August 7 primary election. Winners of this primary will run in the November 6 general election.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Also on the August 7 ballot is a vote on adding a constitutional amendment. The ballot reads: Shall the Missouri Constitution be amended to ensure that the right of Missouri citizens to express their religious beliefs shall not be infringed, that school children have the right to pray and acknowledge God voluntarily in their schools, and that all public schools shall display the bill of Rights of the United State Constitution.<\/p>\n

It is estimated this proposal will result in little or no costs or savings for state and local governmental entities.<\/p>\n

The bill was proposed by the 96th<\/sup> General Assembly and requires a simple majority to pass.<\/p>\n

Most candidates face no opposition in the Primary. Exceptions are in \u00a0State Senate District 13 where Gina Walsh and Reditt Hudson will vie for the Democratic nomination for \u00a0the seat held by Tim Green who faced term limits and couldn\u2019t run for reelection. Walsh has most of the support that Green had including a large labor and union block of support.<\/p>\n

In the State House races in District 68, incumbent Burt Atkins faces opposition from Florissant City Council Keith English and from Todd Hoffman. Incumbent Sylvester Taylor faces Rochelle Walton Gray in District 75. \u00a0\u00a0Here is a capsule of the local races Aug. 7th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
