The Ferguson-Florissant School District Board of Education took time to honor the accomplishments of students and staff at its March . monthly board meeting \u00a0Honorees\u2019 names were read, and they were applauded as they walked forward to receive certificates of appreciation and pats-on-the back from board members. Honored were the following:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

RaShawn Johnson<\/strong> is the FFSD Teacher of the Year. RaShawn Johnson, a reading teacher at Berkeley Middle School, is the 2012 Ferguson-Florissant School District Teacher of the Year. Johnson has taught in the district six years. Her love for children and education started at home.<\/p>\n

Jo Ann Crawford<\/strong> is the FFSD Support Employee of the Year. Jo Ann Crawford, office manager at Central Elementary School, is the 2012 Ferguson-Florissant School District Support Employee of the Year. Jo Ann is well loved by Central families and staff. She said her secret is simple, ”<\/p>\n

McCluer Comets Pommies clinched first and second at the 4A state dance championship competition.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The McCluer High School Pommies<\/strong> placed first and second under Prop and Mix, respectively, at the 2012 Missouri dance team Class 4A championship — honors they also won at the 2009 Class 5A championship. The Comets clinched first place with their luggage- and train-themed “All Aboard” act. They also snatched second for their show featuring the Black Eyed Peas’ hit “Pump it.” Statewide, more than 90 teams attended the Feb. 25 contest at Lee Summit West High School. Members are: \u00a0freshmen A\u2019jee Anderson, Candace James and Sierra McKenzie; sophomores Christina Merritt and Taylor Smith; juniors Ashley Ross, Dasia Travis and Davyon West; senior and co-captain Zavier Alexander; and lastly, senior and captain Alexandria Clark. Rega Wesley-Stewart, MC math teacher, is head coach. Jackie Allen, Mark Twain Student Support Center teacher, is assistant coach.<\/p>\n

McCluer North Stars <\/strong>as Class 5 state champs for second year in a row. The McCluer North High School varsity boys basketball team won their second-straight Class 5 state championship at the University of Missouri-Columbia — this time boasting a 9-point lead over Nixa (69-60). With a 26-game winning streak, the Stars remained poised for victory throughout the season and capped off their success by winning the state playoffs.<\/p>\n

McCluer High School\u2019s Chantel Stanciel, and McCluer North High School\u2019s Galen Brown and Randy Reed were selected to receive the Suburban North 2012 all-conference basketball team\u2019s highest honors. Chantel, a senior, was tapped for the Sixth Man of the Year honor. Galen, a senior, earned the Player of the Year title.<\/p>\n

MC and MN students<\/strong> will attend Missouri Fine Arts Academy. Eleven Ferguson-Florissant juniors have been accepted into the highly-selective 2012 Missouri Fine Arts Academy. For the second year in a row, the FFSD has the most students accepted into the three-week summer program held at Missouri State University. The program immerses students into a chosen art discipline and provides them with cultural, recreational and leadership opportunities. They are: \u00a0McCluer High School\u2019s Jennifer Boston, Shawntel Davis, Tiana Glass, Danasia Nance, Elvony Pleasant and Adrienne Thompson. Congratulations are also extended to McCluer North High School\u2019s Benjamin Behlmann, Charles Black, Darby Dachroeden, Omar Morris and Quentin Singleton for the noteworthy accomplishment.<\/p>\n

Ferg-Flor students sweep Iota Phi Lambda <\/strong>Black History Month contest. The top winners in Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc.\u2019s 25th Annual Black History Month Essay and Oratorical contest attend school in the Ferguson-Florissant School District. The following students were recognized by the Alpha Zeta Chapter for their outstanding writing skills: Lee-Hamilton Elementary School\u2019s Amanda Baranowski placed third, Sydni Ingram earned second and Alexandria Taylor won first-place in the sixth-grade category of the contest. second or third place, respectively. Danielle, Sydni and Keith also won first-, second- and third-place trophies, respectively, for their oratorical skills.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
