The Florissant City Council held two public hearings at the\u00a0 recent council meeting.<\/p>\n

In the first hearing, Darren Burress and Sherrie McKeown asked for a special use permit so they could open The Spot Caf\u00e9 at 1772 Thunderbird Rd. This is in the same center as Gettemeier\u2019s.<\/p>\n

The caf\u00e9 would be an internet caf\u00e9. Burress and McKeown said they wanted to create a spot for all ages to come and relax. There would be no alcohol served. They would provide internet access, and games such as Xbox and video games.<\/p>\n

Councilwoman Karen McKay expressed some concerns about the parking at the small center where the caf\u00e9 would be located. She noted that, because of Gettemeier\u2019s, the parking lot was often filled. She asked Burress and McKeown if they had considered other sites in the city. They said that they had looked, but this site met their needs. No one spoke against the caf\u00e9.<\/p>\n

In the second hearing, Glen Travers, with Cross Keys Auto, asked for an amendment to his special use permit to allow an addition to the business\u2019 existing building at 14050 New Halls Ferry Road. He said that the small addition would provide office space to allow one or two additional salespeople to work at the site. No one spoke against the addition.\u00a0 The council held first readings on both proposals.<\/p>\n

In other commercial news, Mayor Thomas Schneider\u00a0 announced this week that the new Firestone Auto Service Center is currently being built on Lindbergh Boulevard on the site of the former Quik Trip., that would add another 100 construction jobs to the $4 million project.
