\"\"<\/a>Webster Groves is one neighborhood that I love to visit.\u00a0 So when the Dining Divas decided to head on down to The Block, I was excited.\u00a0 I\u2019d driven by the place on Lockwood a few times before and every time said \u201cwe need to go there.\u201d\u00a0 It\u2019s set in Old Webster, but there\u2019s nothing old about it.<\/p>\n

Vegetarians, beware.\u00a0 This is not the place for you.\u00a0 The Block is known as a restaurant, butcher, and a bar.\u00a0 Immediately when you walk in, you\u2019ll notice the prime cuts of meat showcased in their meat case.\u00a0 Anything tempting?\u00a0 No problem.\u00a0 They\u2019ll cut you some meat and wrap it up nicely in butcher block paper for you to take home.<\/p>\n

The Block butchers its own grass-fed meat and showcases local specials every week.\u00a0 It\u2019s definitely a destination for meat lovers.<\/p>\n

But if you\u2019re with a big group of friends, don\u2019t expect to be able to carry on a conversation.\u00a0 We just couldn\u2019t hear each other.\u00a0 Had it been a Spring night, dining on the patio may have been more enjoyable.\u00a0 And, don\u2019t expect to be able to enjoy your friend\u2019s photo album of her latest adventure to Africa.\u00a0 Lighting was minimal.\u00a0 Maybe it was to create an ambiance.\u00a0 But then again, we were in a restaurant that\u2019s known as a butcher\u2026and a bar.\u00a0 Not sure what ambiance that creates.<\/p>\n

But the evening was still delightful.\u00a0\u00a0 We started the meal off with a bread basket\u2026not the complimentary kind, but the kind you pay six bucks for.\u00a0 It had an assortment of breads with different flavored butters.\u00a0 The bread was delicious but pricey for a bread basket.\u00a0 We devoured the Roasted Mushroom and Swiss appetizer with plans to recreate the recipe at home.<\/p>\n

Served with country bread, it\u2019s The Block\u2019s take on fondue.\u00a0 According to the Italian Diva, it was one of the best foods ever to touch her lips.\u00a0\u00a0 The Education Diva passed around her Spinach Salad with apples, pecans, and cheddar, and we all loved it.<\/p>\n

For the main course, a few of us decided on the White Wine Braised Pork.\u00a0\u00a0 Our accommodating waiter swapped out the turnips for the Picky Diva who claims the word \u201cturnip\u201d makes her stomach turn.\u00a0 Not sure what she was expecting when she was alarmed by the bone in the pork.\u00a0 Our waiter did tell us the meat came from the shoulder.\u00a0 The consensus on the braised pork was similar.\u00a0 It was just okay.\u00a0 And the potatoes that came with the meal were way too salty.\u00a0 The World Traveling Diva drank bottles of water when she got home, and she doesn\u2019t even like water.<\/p>\n

We were primed for excellent meat at The Block, and the Practical Diva was confident the Block Burger would wow her.\u00a0 Unfortunately, it was just okay also.\u00a0 As was the Amish Chicken.\u00a0 Nothing special. The Pork Chop did not disappoint.\u00a0 We all had to try the lone dish ordered, and we all wished we had more.<\/p>\n

So should I happen to be in Webster again some evening, I may go back to The Block.\u00a0 I\u2019d definitely order the mushroom appetizer and the chop.\u00a0 And hopefully, the weather permits outside dining so I can carry on a conversation without straining to hear or losing my voice from shouting.\u00a0 It\u2019s in Old Webster, and that\u2019s one neighborhood I love to revisit.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
