He seems much older than his age would suggest, especially while talking about his role as Billy Ray Jr. in the Black Rep production of \u201cOn Golden Pond.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s an unkempt kid. In the beginning, he doesn\u2019t care what anyone thinks, he says what\u2019s on his mind and he curses a lot,\u201d said Cross of his character.<\/p>\n<p>As the play unfolds, Cross describes changes in Billy Ray Jr. \u201cHe spends more time with an older adult. His posture changes and he stands up straight. He uses a softer voice and he\u2019s more pleasant to be around,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn Golden Pond\u201d is a glimpse into the lives of Ethel and Norman Thayer, who are spending their 48th summer in Golden Pond, ME, the childhood summer home of Ethel. Described as a universal story of family, the play explores love, disfavor and reconciliation.<\/p>\n<p>This is Cross\u2019 first big stage play. He has been in school productions, and in fourth grade, he had a role in the opera \u201cLa Boheme.\u201d He was also involved in a summer program hosted by the Black Rep.<\/p>\n<p>Cross said the theatre company invited him to audition for \u201cOn Golden Pond.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I didn\u2019t want to pass it up,\u201d said Cross. He auditioned with a monologue, a scene from \u201cPursuit of Happyness\u201d with Will Smith and his son.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like to entertain people,\u201d said Cross when asked what he likes about being on stage. \u201cIt just feels right. I like to make people laugh.\u201d His favorite sports are baseball and soccer, his favorite actors are Smith and Tom Cruise and his favorite entertainers are Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga, Drake and Lil Wayne.<\/p>\n<p>When asked what he likes about school, he said he likes being in SAIL \u2013 Students\u2019 Activities in Investigative Learning. It is the gifted education program for middle school students.<\/p>\n<p>When he grows up, he wants to \u201cbe an actor turned mogul.\u201d He cited interests in having a shoe company, a fashion line, real estate, and branching out into \u201cother entertainment like singing and rapping.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Until then, he\u2019ll continue his present role, while also auditioning for a commercial.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My parents are really behind this. They really think this can happen,\u201d Cross said of his aspiration to become an actor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy mom gives me tips, and she\u2019s a good acting coach. She keeps me humble, too,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Cross\u2019 stage presence has been met with good reviews.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt makes me feel good to know people are recognizing my talent,\u201d he said.
