Missouri has three Catholic-Jesuit all-boys high schools and two of them are in the St. Louis area. DeSmet, located in Creve Coeur off Interstate 270 and having a large number of North County area students, , will play host to St. Louis University High in a key Class Six, District Two Football game Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. It is also a Metro Catholic Conference game. SLUH is in St. Louis City across Oakland Avenue from the southeastern corner of Forest Park.<\/p>\n

Both DeSmet and SLUH won last week, the first week of district play, on the road in dominating fashion over their Suburban West Conference opponents Oct. 14. DeSmet won at Lindbergh, 30-13 as the Spartans, with two touchdown runs by Durron Neal, scored 17 unanswered points to break up a 13-13 tie. SLUH won at Mehlville, 38-0, scoring all of its points in the first half as Terek Hawkins ran for 221 yards and four Junior Billiken touchdowns.<\/p>\n

The winner of this game will likely clinch a sectional spot and the outcome of the Mehlville-Lindbergh game, also Friday at 7 p.m., could also mean a district title for the DeSmet-SLUH winner if their opponent from last week wins. The top two teams from District Two play the top two teams from District One.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0 CLASS SIX, DISRICT FOUR<\/strong> — McCluer North hosts Hazelwood West Oct. 22 at 2 p.m. a day after Hazelwood Central visits Ritenour Oct. 21 for a 7 p.m. game. McCluer North and Ritenour, thanks to road wins Oct. 15, are each a win away from a possible showdown, Oct. 28 at Ritenour for both the district and Suburban North Conference titles and both can secure sectional berths with wins this weekend.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0 McCluer North <\/strong>(7-1, 5-0 Suburban North) won 21-10 at Hazelwood Central (3-5, 3-2) as Galen Brown scored a pair of one-yard touchdown runs, the first coming after the Stars recovered an on-side kick to start the game. \u201cWe controlled the ball and played good defense,\u201d said North head coach Jim Schottmueller, but \u201cwe made too many turnovers\u201d which helped the Hawks get on the scoreboard. As far as getting ready for the Wildcats (1-7, 1-4) Schottmueller said the Stars have \u201cgot to get better in all phases of the game.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ritenour (8-0, 5-0) blew out Hazelwood West, 56-8, after the Huskies lead the \u2019Cats, 50-8 at halftime. Brandon Brown scored a pair of Husky touchdowns. Ritenour is the only team in the Suburban North that has not played in the post-season.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0 CLASS THREE, DISTRICT FOUR<\/strong> — Lutheran North (6-2) visits 5-3 Cardinal Ritter Oct. 21 for a 7 p.m. game while 5-3 Trinity Catholic has a\u00a0 2 p.m. Saturday date, Oct. 22, at 4-4 McCluer South-Berkeley. Thanks to wins on Oct. 14 Lutheran North and McCluer South-Berkeley is each a win away from an Oct. 27 battle at Lutheran North, which will use temporary lights for the game.<\/p>\n

Lutheran North<\/strong> was a 44-31 winner at Trinity thanks to a pair of fourth-quarter fumble recoveries returned for touchdowns in a span of 16 seconds. \u201cThat has been the key, takeaways and giveaways,\u201d said Lutheran North head coach Mike Russell. \u201cThat\u2019s what we hope for.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ryan Moore, who ran for 203 yards and a Crusader touchdown, returned a Trinity fumble 31 yards for a score on the kickoff after a Fernando Wingham 60-yard return of another fumble for a touchdown. Moore caught one of two touchdown passes by Glenn Bradford, who ran for another. McCluer South-Berkeley was a 48-18 winner at Cardinal Ritter.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0 CLASS FIVE, DISTRICT THREE<\/strong> — On Oct. 22 at 2 p.m. Hazelwood East (4-4) visits Riverview Gardens (0-8) while McCluer (2-6) hosts Normandy (4-4). Hazelwood East and Normandy, thanks to Oct. 15 wins, are each a win away from playing for the district title, Oct. 29 at East, and a regional round bye while the district runner up plays Nov. 2 against the District One runner up.<\/p>\n

Hazelwood East won easily at home 50-21 over McCluer as five Spartans scored, led by a three-touchdown effort by Dallas Vaughn.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
