Kirkwood Restaurant\u2019s Small Bites Make Big Impression on Dining Divas<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

Kirkwood is one of those communities that I rarely consider when making dinner plans; however, when I pass through, I\u2019m always reminded how much I enjoy the area.\u00a0 The charming, energetic neighborhood of downtown Kirkwood encourages shopping, dining, and foot traffic in a rather busy part of town.\u00a0 And I love it.<\/p>\n

So this month, the Dining Divas headed for the streets and sidewalks of this bustling city to enjoy dinner at One 19 North Tapas and Wine Bar.<\/p>\n

Call it aging.\u00a0 Call it loss of patience.\u00a0 Call it whatever you want, but this month, I made the call to break tradition.\u00a0 The Dining Divas typically join in the Cinco de Mayo celebrations in the month of May by choosing a Mexican restaurant.\u00a0 This year, because the actual feast fell on the first Thursday of the month, we opted out.\u00a0 The Overworked Diva had tacos for lunch with a group of bandwagoners.\u00a0 The Educator Diva was ready to whoop it up with margaritas.\u00a0 But for this Diva, dining with drunks just wasn\u2019t appetizing.<\/p>\n

We weren\u2019t disappointed.\u00a0 While waiting for the group to arrive, conclusions were made.\u00a0 It\u2019s easy to understand why four women chose this place to toast the announcement of a retirement.\u00a0 Or why a few girlfriends gathered there to catch up on the latest gossip.\u00a0 Or why a couple decided to make this place the place for date night.\u00a0 It has a neighborhood feel within a warm and fashionable setting.<\/p>\n

Being that it\u2019s a \u201cwine\u201d bar, the Sober Diva decided to try out a flight of wine, just to be \u201cpolite\u201d.\u00a0 Being that it\u2019s a \u201ctapas\u201d restaurant, we shared \u201csmall\u201d bites of a few menu items.\u00a0 From 5- 7 p.m., several tapas items were half price.<\/p>\n

We tried the Oven Baked Goat Cheese.\u00a0 Delicious.\u00a0 If you\u2019re indecisive, the Mango Chicken Wings please both sweet and salty palettes.\u00a0 The Sassy Diva enjoyed dangling the Flash Fried Calamari from her mouth just to get a reaction from the Meat and Potato Diva.\u00a0 And she got it.\u00a0 The Red Pepper Hummus was a safe and sure bet for the Picky Diva.\u00a0 It also came with a Saffron dip, but she chose to skip that.\u00a0 Too \u201cunusual\u201d for this simple girl.<\/p>\n

Many Divas were envious of the BBQ Cajun Shrimp ordered by one Diva, but they weren\u2019t envious of her bill at the end of the meal.\u00a0 It was three times more than the rest!<\/p>\n

Amidst looks of disgust, the Two Week Notice Diva ordered the Chicken Liver Bruschetta.\u00a0 At first bite, she thought the livers were too well done.\u00a0 But by the practically licked-clean plate, you could tell she enjoyed them.<\/p>\n

She also enjoyed sharing the story of her brand new car her husband brought home one day for her.\u00a0 She mentioned liking the new Ford Taurus to her husband, and unbeknownst to her, he researched, negotiated, and bought her a new car.\u00a0 Now that\u2019s a good husband.<\/p>\n

The Single Diva shared the story of her significant other bringing home a brand new car too.\u00a0 Only this one he didn\u2019t have to research, negotiate, or even buy.\u00a0 He won it in a raffle at the Lake.\u00a0 He bought two raffle tickets, one for her and one for himself.\u00a0 Or so she thought.\u00a0 When she put her name on one of the raffles, he reminded her \u201cyou can\u2019t win if you don\u2019t play.\u201d\u00a0 In translation – if you don\u2019t buy it, you don\u2019t win it.\u00a0 Thankfully, they pulled his name and not hers.\u00a0 The new car would have been the end of them if she had won.<\/p>\n

The Single Diva pondered her single hood as the Educator Diva shared a story of students fighting.\u00a0 Seems one of her students had a crush on another and showed his love by throwing a book at her.\u00a0 Well, there ended up being a blood-gushing nose and a couple students in suspension.\u00a0 Now that\u2019s love.\u00a0 And had the Single Diva known it would only take a tossing of a book to express undying affection, she\u2019s sure she wouldn\u2019t still be single.\u00a0 Do you think the tossing of a few drinks counts?<\/p>\n

So when you\u2019re making plans with friends, looking for somewhere different to go to, don\u2019t forget about the pedestrian and visitor-friendly Kirkwood and One 19 North Tapas and Wine Bar. \u00a0You won\u2019t need to throw anything to get the attention you deserve, and you won\u2019t need a new car to fit right in.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
