Four of the hearings were requests from new businesses that want to move into the city.<\/p>\n<p>The first hearing regarded a request by John Engelmeyer to rezone the property at 700 St. Judith Lane from residential to commercial so he could open an accounting office there. The property is behind the ALPS store on New Florissant Road. Engelmeyer lives in a nearby home.<\/p>\n<p>Some council members said they were reluctant to rezone to commercial. \u201cOnce it\u2019s rezoned, you can\u2019t go back,\u201d Councilwoman Karen McKay explained. She said that while she had no objections to an accounting office going in there, if Mr. Engelmeyer sold the property at a later date, any business covered under the commercial zoning could move in.<\/p>\n<p>The second hearing was a request to rezone property at 8400 N. Lindbergh to allow for the construction of an auto service garage. This is the site of the QuikTrip on Lindbergh. Firestone would like to open a store on the site.<\/p>\n<p>The next hearing was for a special use permit for Sunworks Tanning Salon to open a salon at 462 Howdershell Road. This is the shopping center near Koch Park that also contains Max\u2019 Meats and a Valvoline Oil Change station.<\/p>\n<p>McKay, citing her work with the American Cancer Society and her belief that tanning beds cause cancer, said she would abstain from any vote on the business.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, the council heard a request from Fish and Chips to allow a carry-out restaurant at 8141 N. Lindbergh. This is in a small strip center across from the Schnucks and Gold\u2019s Gym on Lindbergh.<\/p>\n<p>The council also held two hearings about two Taco Bells in the city, one at 2525 N. Highway 67, and one at 1491 Dunn Road. The owner wants to renovate the buildings to the newer Taco Bell style.
