Red Cross Offers Clean-Up Supplies in Dellwood;<\/strong><\/p>\n

Shelter Remains Open in Maryland Heights<\/strong><\/p>\n

Red Cross volunteers continue damage assessments and mobile feeding in neighborhoods<\/em><\/p>\n

St. Louis, Tuesday, April 26, 2011 \u2013 <\/strong>Based on developing needs in storm-damaged neighborhoods,<\/p>\n

the American Red Cross will be offering clean-up items from a fixed location at the Dellwood<\/p>\n

Recreation Center. The Red Cross will provide tarps, duct tape, coolers, shovels, clean-up kits, work<\/p>\n

gloves, trash bags, comfort kits, small flashlights and hand sanitizer to storm victims. Residents must<\/p>\n

bring proof of identification and residency in one of the affected neighborhoods (i.e. a driver\u2019s license,<\/p>\n

utility bill, etc.). This distribution will continue in the days to come as needed.<\/p>\n

Clean-up Supplies Available: Dellwood Recreation Center (parking lot)<\/strong><\/p>\n

11 a.m. \u2013 6 p.m. (while supplies last)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Red Cross shelter remains open for families who are displaced from their homes due to the<\/p>\n

storms.<\/p>\n

Shelter Remains Open: Maryland Heights Community Center<\/strong><\/p>\n

2344 McKelvey Road, Maryland Heights, Missouri 63043<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Red Cross, along with community partners including United Way of Greater St. Louis, are working<\/p>\n

with emergency management officials, providing support for first responders, and staffing the Missouri<\/p>\n

and Illinois Emergency Operations Centers (EOC).<\/p>\n

Red Cross volunteers will continue \u201cmobile feeding\u201d efforts, driving Emergency Response Vehicles<\/p>\n

throughout affected neighborhoods and handing out meals. To date, the Red Cross has served more<\/p>\n

than 2,000 meals and snacks. Outreach teams are canvassing neighborhoods performing damage<\/p>\n

assessments and providing casework as needed, which is anticipated to continue through the week.<\/p>\n

In addition, the St. Louis Area Chapter is helping to send supplies and support the disaster relief<\/p>\n

efforts throughout southern Missouri and Illinois, where flooding has forced hundreds of families to<\/p>\n

evacuate their homes. Ten shelters are currently open to provide a safe place to stay along with<\/p>\n

emergency care. Additional shelters will open as needed; to find a shelter location, go to<\/p>\n

www.redcross.org <\/span>and click \u201cFind a Shelter.\u201d As weather unfolds, additional trained volunteers are on<\/p>\n

standby; St. Louis has more than 600 trained disaster volunteers ready to deploy at a moment\u2019s<\/p>\n

notice.<\/p>\n

Red Cross encourages anyone who needs help, or knows of anyone who needs help, to go to<\/strong><\/p>\n

the Maryland Heights shelter or call 314.516.2700. <\/strong>Red Cross provides immediate assistance with<\/p>\n

food, clothing, shelter <\/strong>and other critical needs in the wake of disasters and emergencies. For other<\/p>\n

emergency and long-term needs, local residents are encouraged to call the United Way\u2019s 2-1-1 resource<\/p>\n
