The winners of the races now certified will be sworn in at the next City Council meeting, on Monday, April 26<br \/>\nThe Ward 6 race was \u00a0a tie between Steve Purgahn and Pat Stinnett after a recount with both candidates getting 470 votes. A third candidate Benjamin Eye got 336 votes. The election board has officially determined that it&#8217;s a tie, Godwin said the candidates now have two choices. They can either have another election, which would be held on August 2, or they could have a drawing or other form of chance.<br \/>\n\u201cIt\u2019s called election by lot,\u201d Godwin said. State law provides the election by lot method in cases of a tie. They would probably have a drawing, Godwin said, but she added that both candidates would have to agree to this idea. If either candidate does not agree, the special election will occur.
