Schneider Wins With 37%<\/h1>\n

In what many thought would be a tight contest, turned out to be big win for long-time Councilman Tom Schneider in\u00a0 his victory\u00a0 for\u00a0 mayor of Florissant, garnering\u00a0 37.6% of the vote in the race against five other contestants.<\/span><\/h1>\n

Schneider gathered 3,803 votes in the April 5th<\/sup> election, with Susan Geerling coming in second with 2,410 votes (23.7%) Mark Behlmann, who many thought would be the main competition for Schneider, got 2312 (22.7%) votes, just 98 less than Geerling, a former council member who hadn\u2019t been on the board in eight years.
\nCouncilman Andrew Podleski\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>
\n1156 votes (11.4%), former councilman Robert Garrett 388 votes (3.8%) and Robert Spreng only got 83 votes (0.8%)
\nSchneider said Wednesday morning, \u201cI remember the first time I walked inside of City Hall to interview with Mayor Eagan and\u00a0 I \u00a0know \u00a0that I will remember the first time I enter that same City Hall as the third mayor under the current 48 year old charter.\u201d
\n\u201cWe are grateful for the continued support, encouragement and help that we received during this campaign and I have enjoyed meeting so many nice people and hearing their new ideas for a brighter future fir Florissant.\u201d
\nSchneider said as mayor it will be \u201cmy job to inspire all of our various groups to work together for mutual progress. And not just in our city limits. What is good for Hazelwood or Ferguson or Black Jack is good for Florissant and vice versa.\u201d
\nIn the two races for city council, one wasn\u2019t close at all and other was by one vote.\u00a0 Incumbent Ward 4 Councilman Keith English picked up 62.7% of the vote Jeff Caputa\u2019s 37.2% (789-468 votes).\u00a0 In the Ward 6 vote, R. Patrick Stinnett beat Steve Purgahn by just one vote, 470-469, thus opening the door for a recount.\u00a0 Benjamin Eye earned 336 ( 26.3%)\u00a0 votes. Ward 2 Councilman John Grib and Ward 6 Councilman Mark Schmidt ran unopposed.
\nThe new Mayor and City Council won\u2019t take office until the\u00a0 April 25th<\/sup> council meeting.<\/p>\n

City Judge Holds Post, McCourt Re-elected<\/h1>\n

In the race for municipal judge in Florissant. long-time Judge Timothy Kelly got 4,976 (54%) of the votes in \u00a0a narrow victory over Old Town attorney Daniel Boyle, who got 4,196 (45.7%)
\nIn the race for mayor of Black Jack, incumbent Norm McCourt won another term beating former Berkeley councilman Kenneth McClendon 570-354. Incumbents Councilman Al Schroeder and AJ White were reelected.<\/p>\n

Incumbents Win in Hazelwood District<\/h1>\n

Incumbents Lose in Ferguson-Florissant<\/h1>\n

In the Hazelwood School Board race, incumbents Ann Gibbons (26.6%)\u00a0 and Chuck Woods (26.3) were reelected along with former elementary school principal Brenda Youngblood who won one of the three seats with (26.3%), and one vote more than Woods. Nita Curry lost a seat, but still gathered (20.7%) of the vote.
\nAll three incumbents Doris Graham, Les Lentz and James Clark on the Ferguson-Florissant School Board lost their seats. They will be replaced by top vote getter Chris Martinez (19.8%) Paul Morris (14.2%) and\u00a0 Robert Chabot (13.8%) Graham got 12%, Clark 9.7% and Lentz only 4.4%
\nMatt Becker beat Diane Foeller Marischen by about a 2-1 margin for the director\u2019s post on the Florissant Fire Protection Board.
