The students and staff at Jamestown Elementary School in the Hazelwood School District have once again stepped up to support the needs of others after a natural disaster. After five days of fundraising, the school will present a check for $1,200 to the American Red Cross to assist with relief efforts in Japan due to the earthquake in March.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A representative from the agency will visit Jamestown Elementary on April 6 at 8:50 a.m. to accept the donation during the school\u2019s morning meeting.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

From March 28 through April 1, students could donate at least $1 a day to participate in theme days such as Crazy Hair Day, Shades Day and Dress Down for Japan. Jamestown Elementary is a uniform school. Staff members who donated $15 were allowed to dress casually for the week.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In a message of thanks to staff and parents, Dr. Lisa Strauther, principal, said \u201cOnce again, you have shown your caring spirit!\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In January 2010, the school raised $1,400 in less than a week for earthquake relief in Haiti. Spirit and theme days served as incentives, including Dr. Strauther committing to kissing a horse if the school met its fundraising goal.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
