The Florissant City Council postponed several items on this week\u2019s agenda to future meetings when the new council and mayor will be seated. In most cases, the council member who moved to postpone the item asked for more time for the council to discuss the item.<\/p>\n

Councilman Tom Schneider introduced a bill to reduce the fee for tent sales from $100 to $30 for non-profit organizations. He said that several charities had asked him to try to reduce the fee. While some council members said they agreed with the idea, they were unsure how it would be administered.<\/p>\n

The council recently imposed the fee after noticing an abundance of tent sales and receiving complaints from some businesses that the largely unregulated tent sales were unfair competition. In addition to the fee, the council limited the frequency with which organizations can have the sales.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve been down this road,\u201d Councilman Mark Schmidt said. \u201cThe problem is the definition of non-profit.\u201d He said that city had run into issues before with organizations claiming to be non-profits.\u00a0 He said he understood what Schneider was trying to do, but he would have to vote no, because of the non-profit definition issue.<\/p>\n

Councilman Tim Lee agreed with Schmidt and suggested that the council postpone the bill and work on a definition of a non-profit. Schneider moved to postpone and the council voted yes.<\/p>\n

The council also postponed a bill that would alter the composition of the city\u2019s Parks and Recreation Board, and change the membership from seven to nine people.\u00a0 This would eliminate the two alternate members and make them full members.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
