Greg Bernal <\/strong>of Florissant, the angler who caught the 130 pound State and World Record blue catfish<\/strong> last July, was officially awarded on Jan. 7 at Columbia Bottom Conservation Area, near where the giant fish was caught.\u00a0 The State Record plaque was presented personally by Bob Ziehmeer, director of the Conservation Department.<\/p>\n

Bernal \u00a0reeled in the record-breaking fish during the early-morning hours of Tuesday, July 20 from the Missouri River.\u00a0 The fight from water to boat lasted 45 minutes.\u00a0 Once on shore the blue cat measured 57 inches in length with a girth of 45 inches.\u00a0 Its 130-pound weight overthrew the previous state record pole and line catch by 27 pounds.<\/p>\n
