{"id":4118,"date":"2010-10-08T12:58:28","date_gmt":"2010-10-08T18:58:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.flovalleynews.com\/?p=4118"},"modified":"2010-10-08T12:58:28","modified_gmt":"2010-10-08T18:58:28","slug":"council-considers-changing-zoning-code-for-offices-in-residential-areas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flovalleynews.com\/?p=4118","title":{"rendered":"Council Considers Changing Zoning Code for Offices in Residential Areas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Carol Arnett<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Florissant City Council held a public hearing last week in which they discussed the possibility of amending the zoning code to allow for mixed office-residences and professional offices in residential zoning districts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to observe that other communities have this and we have it in Old Town,\u201d said Councilman Tom Schneider. \u201cSeveral businesses are grandfathered in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Councilman John Grib said he disagreed with Schneider. \u201cThis erodes residential neighborhoods,\u201d he said. \u201cTo change the zoning laws to accommodate one house \u2013 I don\u2019t see it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t see this as changing the zoning code,\u201d said Councilman Mark Schmidt. \u201cWe\u2019re amending the zoning code.\u201d Schmidt said the city did not have a way to deal with these businesses now. \u201cIt\u2019s don\u2019t ask, don\u2019t tell,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The city\u2019s Planning and Zoning Commission recommended denial of the change. The council held a first reading on the bill amending the zoning code. They will have a second read and vote on approval at the next council meeting.<\/p>\n<p><strong> A second public hearing<\/strong> was held to discuss allowing an outdoor covered patio area for Mattingly\u2019s Inn on 8108 North Lindbergh. The council voted to approve the change.<\/p>\n<p>The third public hearing at the meeting was a request to approve the final subdivision of the park Side Estate Subdivision Plat for the property located at 2316, 2355, and 2375 Charbonier Road. This is across from Koch Park, behind the Shop N Save. The council held a first reading on the bill approving this subdivision. They will hold the second reading and vote on approval at the next meeting.<\/p>\n<p><strong> In other matters,<\/strong> the council passed ordinances\u00a0 for a new restaurant. Weaver\u2019s Dominique Deli will open in the property located at 12761 New Halls Ferry Road.<\/p>\n<p>The council also passed an ordinance appropriating $50,000 for the repair of masonry on the James J. Eagan Center.<\/p>\n<p>The council reminded residents that several board and commissions need new members.
