The Hazelwood School District Board of Education\u00a0 has approved a resolution calling for a bond election on Nov. 2. The initiative is called Proposition H.<\/p>\n
<\/strong>The no-tax-rate-increase bond issue will request $120 million to fund facility updates for HSD schools.<\/p>\n The updates include:\u00a0 bringing buildings up to code through life, health and safety improvements; improving wiring for up-to-date technology; updating heating\/ventilation\/air conditioning (HVAC) systems; modernizing science labs and classrooms; replacing deteriorated exterior wall systems and hazardous floor tile; new white boards; updating library media centers; and providing elevators to improve access.<\/p>\n The recommendation for the no-tax-rate-increase bond issue is the result of Phase III of Hazelwood 1st<\/sup>, a public engagement process involving district parents, community and business leaders.<\/p>\n \u201cProposition H will address facility upgrades and will allow our students to remain competitive in the world beyond the kindergarten through grade 12 education they\u2019re receiving here in Hazelwood,\u201d said Supt. Steve Price.<\/p>\n \u201cIt will allow us, for example, to upgrade the infrastructure for our technology, which is important for student success. It is also going to allow us to bring our buildings up to code,” said Price. “When I think of code, I think of assuring that our students remain safe in a healthy environment that\u2019s conducive to learning.
