Looking to make a difference in these trying times, the three St. Louis CROP Hunger Walks\u00a0 have set a goal of 1,000 Walkers and hopes to raise $75,000 to help stop hunger and poverty here in our community and around the world, through self-help initiatives.<\/p>\n
Locally, 25% of all funds raised and 100% of the canned goods collected will go to Operation Food Search which will use the contributions to help solve hunger issues in the North County area. CROP Hunger North Walk\u00a0 will be held Sept. 26 from 12:30-2: at Florissant Valley Community\u00a0 College. Teams can begin their walk whenever they are ready.<\/p>\n
Since\u00a0 the first CROP Walk in 2008, more than one thousand Walkers raised nearly\u00a0 $180,000 to help fight hunger here in the St. Louis region and around the world.<\/p>\n
An additional challenge this year is also being issued to all walkers to bring 10 cans of food with them to the walk.\u00a0 The goal is to fill the Operation Food Search truck with 5,000 cans of food.\u00a0 For those not able to participate in the walk, canned goods and financial donations are most welcome.<\/p>\n
This year St. Louis and some 2,000 cities and towns nationwide are joining together in interfaith community CROP Hunger Walks around the theme “Ending hunger one step at a time.”\u00a0 Many of the CROP Walkers will be wearing\u00a0 T-shirts, proclaiming their solidarity with the millions of neighbors around the world. in the U.S. Local ministries share in the funds raised by CROP Hunger Walks.<\/p>\n
Haiti is one part of the world where CROP Hunger Walks are making a big difference.\u00a0 In the aftermath of the killer earthquake, Church World Service was there with much-needed emergency assistance.\u00a0 With the recovery effort in full swing, CWS is helping families and communities to rebuild homes, food supplies and livelihoods.<\/p>\n
CROP Hunger Walks also play a role in the U.S., helping communities ravaged by floods and tornadoes to recover.<\/p>\n
Operation Food Search, local CROP partner, is the largest distributor of free food in the St. Louis region.\u00a0 The organization has been feeding the hungry in the St. Louis area since 1981.\u00a0 Through a network of 265 community agencies including emergency food pantries, shelters and feeding centers, the organization helps to feed 120,000 people each month.\u00a0 Nearly half of those people are children.<\/p>\n
