Lowery, Sr<strong>.<\/strong> has announced that Florissant will receive approximately $1 million through the Department of Energy in conjunction with the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 (Federal Stimulus Package).<\/p>\n<p>The City was awarded grants from the federal government for the installation of a new integrated solar paneled roof system for the James J. Eagan Civic Center ($452,200.00) and funding for an energy audit and retrofit of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) units for all government owned buildings ($500,000.00).<\/p>\n<p>This recent grant approval of stimulus package funding though the Department of Energy\u2019s Energy Efficiency Community Block Grant program allows the City to incorporate energy efficient methods for reducing future electricity bills.\u00a0 Once completed, the integrated solar paneled roof system will allow many components of the James J. Eagan Civic Center to be run purely on solar energy.\u00a0 In addition, the funding for the improving the HVAC units within all city buildings will save theFlorissant over $80,000.00 per year in energy costs, it has been estimated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the aggressiveness of my staff under my advisement, the city is applying for all applicable ARRA grant applications,\u201d Lowery said. He said he has worked hard with Congressman Lacy Clay and his representatives to bring more federal dollars to Florissant.\u00a0 Construction is estimated to begin on the solar paneled integrated roof system project by September 2010.\u00a0 The energy audit retrofit work is estimated to run through 2011.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Florissant Mayor Robert G.
