Clayton can be a hot spot almost any evening, and this night, the local news cameras were rolling.\u00a0 As the Dining Divas pulled up outside Luciano\u2019s, our first thought was \u201chow\u2019s my lipstick look?\u201d\u00a0 But we soon realized, Fox 2 wasn\u2019t interested in us, much less how we looked on camera.\u00a0 They were there to get the restaurant owner\u2019s reaction to the new non-smoking law in Clayton.\u00a0\u00a0 We had our own reaction to share.<\/p>\n

The Dining Divas are not all\u00a0 \u201canti-smoking.\u201d\u00a0 The Greek Diva is a long time smoker, and although we may not be a supporter of her bad habit, we don\u2019t interfere in her decisions.\u00a0 The Dining Divas are \u201canti-rude smoking\u201d.<\/p>\n

As we sat at our table waiting for dinner, a couple patrons pulled up in their flashy $75,000 vehicle waiting for valet parking.\u00a0 They puffed away on their cigarettes and then tossed their butts onto the ground, leaving nature to deal with their bad habit.\u00a0 That\u2019s rude smoking.<\/p>\n

Or how about when you\u2019re at dinner or having a drink somewhere, and the smoker at the table next to yours so politely keeps the smoke out of the faces of their party, only to blow in yours.\u00a0 That\u2019s rude smoking.<\/p>\n

Never having smoked, I\u2019m probably slightly biased but even the Former Smoking Diva can\u2019t stand it.\u00a0 Coming home after a nice dinner with your cute outfit you just picked up from the dry cleaners reeking of smoke, and your hair smelling of an ashtray \u2026that can put you in a bad mood.\u00a0 And the Diva Husbands don\u2019t want to hear it.\u00a0 I\u2019m pleased to say that the Greek Diva is a very polite smoker.<\/p>\n

So the cameras weren\u2019t quite as exciting once we realized their reason for being there.\u00a0 We were more excited about dinner and chatter.<\/p>\n

Luciano\u2019s may be across from the Ritz-Carlton, but don\u2019t be concerned that it\u2019s too high priced.\u00a0 This Italian restaurant is no more expensive than other Italian places around town.\u00a0 All the Divas weren\u2019t in agreement as to the price to pay for pasta.\u00a0 The Annual Diva picked one of the appetizer specials, scallops and spinach ravioli.<\/p>\n

To her surprise, it only came with two scallops and three ravioli and with a big price tag.\u00a0 Twelve bucks.\u00a0 The appetizer was delicious, but the price was shocking.\u00a0 This Diva\u2019s rule:\u00a0 Any time you\u2019re thinking about ordering one of the \u201cspecials\u201d, inquire about the price.\u00a0 There\u2019s usually a special price attached.\u00a0 A costly one.<\/p>\n

The Grandma-to-be Diva decided to order her own meal instead of splitting one with the Diet Diva as planned.\u00a0 She regretted it.\u00a0 As she put it, she had to take out a second mortgage on her home.\u00a0 She, too, ordered a \u201cspecial\u201d, the grouper, and although she loved it, she also was surprised by the price.\u00a0 Again, she didn\u2019t inquire before she ordered.<\/p>\n

The Culinary Diva started her meal off with a toasted ravioli appetizer.\u00a0 The appetizer plate showed up about a half hour later and with only four ravioli.\u00a0 Being only average, she felt the $7.50 price tag was a little steep.<\/p>\n

Although these Divas felt they paid too much for what they got, everyone agreed that Luciano\u2019s is delicious.\u00a0 Some of the Divas wanted to devour the entire bread basket filled with freshly baked focaccia bread dipped in olive oil and crushed red peppers and spices.\u00a0 Others thought it was dry.<\/p>\n

The Absent Diva enjoyed the local tomato salad with bacon & gorgonzola.\u00a0 The Caesar salad was average except that the romaine was appropriately cut into bite sized pieces and served in a good sized bowl, always a plus as it keeps it from ending up on the table.\u00a0 The Casa salad which was a chopped salad with salami, garbanzo beans and a red wine vinaigrette was delicious.\u00a0 A meal in itself.<\/p>\n

The Pork Chop with a side of gnocchi, saut\u00e9ed spinach, and Italian sausage and plated in pork jus was awesome.\u00a0 The Italian Diva had Maiale, a parmesan encrusted pork chop and thought it was possibly the best chop she\u2019s ever eaten.\u00a0 And she\u2019s quite the pork chop connoisseur.\u00a0 Although the Diet Diva easily could have eaten her entire plate of Penne with grilled chicken, wild mushrooms, roasted garlic, and tomato broth, she was excited to have leftovers the next day.<\/p>\n

The Picky Diva went for your every day kind of pizza.\u00a0 Luciano pizza.\u00a0 It\u2019s simply hamburger, sausage, pepperoni, and bacon.\u00a0 What made this different, and slightly dry, was the minimal sauce on the crust.\u00a0 Too bad because she really enjoyed the parts with the sauce.<\/p>\n

Another Diva tried the herb encrusted saut\u00e9ed chicken breast with roasted cherry tomatoes and black garlic\u00a0risotto.\u00a0 She too was excited about her leftovers.\u00a0 Sadly, she wouldn\u2019t get to enjoy them.\u00a0 The next day when she decided to dive into them, she realized our waiter had given her the Picky Diva\u2019s leftover pizza, which really didn\u2019t surprise many of us.<\/p>\n

Our waiter wasn\u2019t on the ball.\u00a0 The restaurant wasn\u2019t busy, but he seemed to never be around.\u00a0 Perhaps he was busy freshening himself up for a possible TV interview.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t waste your time even looking at the dessert menu.\u00a0 Indulge in the rest of your meal.\u00a0 The list of desserts was disappointing.<\/p>\n

The restaurant atmosphere and food was great, but the music confused us.\u00a0 While most of us enjoy listening to a little Lady Gaga or Katy Perry, the music didn\u2019t fit the environment.<\/p>\n

Regardless of our own personal peculiarities, we would definitely go back.\u00a0 The food was excellent.\u00a0 This time upon leaving, I\u2019ll be skipping the mint bowl filled with \u201cfire bomb\u201d balls.\u00a0 These things will kill garlic breath for a good year.\u00a0 But I guess my mouth was the only thing on fire that night in Clayton.\u00a0 It certainly wasn\u2019t cigarette lighters.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
