The Ferguson-Florissant School District Board of Education honored the accomplishments of staff and students at its most recent monthly board meeting. The following were recognized:<\/p>\n
\u2022 Three Ferguson-Florissant Schools Tapped for DESE Honors- Halls Ferry and Wedgwood elementary schools and McCluer High School for successfully implementing school-wide Positive Behavior Support (SW-PBS). The schools were also honored by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) during a ceremony on June 7. The elementary schools will receive the Gold and McCluer will receive the Bronze Award.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Albaraa Al-Hiyari, a senior at McCluer North High School, and Kierra Colenburg, a junior at McCluer South-Berkeley High School, for earning accolades at the Missouri Technology Student Association (TSA) Distinctions Conference. Albarra won third place in the Computer Aided Design and Architectural with Animation Contest. Kierra earned second place in the Agriculture and Biotechnology Design Contest.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Sydney Phan, a fourth-grader at Lee-Hamilton Elementary School, for earning third place (fourth- and fifth-grade category) in the 2010 Missouri NEA\/Missouri Bar Law Day Essay Contest. Her essay earned her a certificate of recognition and $150 U.S. Savings Bond at an awards banquet in Jefferson City.<\/p>\n
\u2022 McCluer North High School freshmen Melvin Baucom, Caleb Carthans, Jerel Colenburg, Kenyah Kamara and Tatyana Trotter; and sophomores Matthew Akins and Louis Ward. The City of Ferguson recognized the Life Skills students and Special School District teacher Tina Holzapfel with certificates of appreciation at a special ceremony in May for gathering paper from its various departments and recycling it. The Life Skills program is designed to teach students vocational skills and strengthen community ties.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
