Hazelwood Central High teacher chosen for public art project Michelle Sindha Thomas, an art teacher at Hazelwood Central High School, was selected as one of more than 50 local artists to participate in a public art project, Wings in the City.<\/p>\n
Wings in the City is associated with Wings, a BJC Healthcare pediatric\u00a0hospice and palliative care program, and the art project will raise money for an expressive therapy program. Artists were selected to paint 5\u2019 x 4\u2019 fiberglass butterflies in partnership with a sponsoring individual or organization. The call to artists asked for “designs that are beautiful, unique and whimsical.”<\/p>\n
Thomas said she was approached as a candidate for the project by someone who saw her artwork at Starbucks in Frontenac. She submitted an image and was chosen by judges.<\/p>\n
She will spend the summer painting a butterfly she named “Haiku.” It will be painted with acrylics made to look like water color and will feature mosaic elements.<\/p>\n
The butterfly must be complete by mid-September. All of the butterflies in the project will be unveiled to the public in October at the World\u2019s Fair Pavilion at Forest Park.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
