Mayor Robert G. Lowery, Sr. has come in support of the North County Casino project citing the 2,000 permanent jobs and thousands more construction jobs for the area it would create.<\/p>\n
“With so many carpenters, ironworkers, pipefitters, sheet metal workers, electricians, plumbers and laborer\u2019s out of work in this dire recession, the North County Casino project would be a life-line to thousands of North County families,” Lowery said.<\/p>\n
The mayor, said in a press release: “Rather than worrying about competition between casinos in the region, the region\u2019s leaders should be concerned that these jobs will be lost to another part of the State.\u00a0 North County especially could use another economic engine.\u00a0 If we want housing values to remain high, then there have to be jobs to keep families here,” Lowery said in his statement.<\/p>\n
Lowery also pointed out that Maryland Heights and St. Charles have greatly benefited from their respective casinos and that hotels and restaurants have been added to these sites over time.\u00a0 He further cited that other businesses have developed around these two sites and have made real-estate values in the area rise.<\/p>\n
The Mayor believes everyone should understand that the information provided to him on the casino is that it will be 3.8 miles from the confluence of the Missouri and the Mississippi Rivers. “There is a misconception with the public regarding this fact,” he said.<\/p>\n
