Divas: Citygarden in Downtown St. Louis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Lisa Kampeter<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Yes, jokes are made about the non-existent Ballpark Village in downtown.\u00a0 Or the once thriving but now empty St. Louis Centre.\u00a0 And the nightlife that\u2019s dead.\u00a0 But one thing that\u2019s not being joked about in downtown St. Louis is the Citygarden. \u00a0 And the Dining Divas stepped out into it this month and loved it.<\/p>\n<p>Citygarden is a unique combination of nature complementing art with the Arch and office buildings as the backdrop.\u00a0 Located in the center of downtown between Eighth and Tenth Street and Market and Chestnut, approximately three acres of beautiful sculptures, lush greenery, brilliant flowers, and glorious water features make up the Citygarden.\u00a0 Overlooking the Citygarden is the Terrace View Caf\u00e9, and what a view it has!<\/p>\n<p>On this particular evening, the Dining Divas were able to enjoy dinner outside.\u00a0 The Terrace View is a glass walled caf\u00e9, so all seats, inside or out, have great views of the garden.\u00a0 If you plan to go some evening, you won\u2019t want to be in a hurry.\u00a0 It was a gorgeous night for us, and we lingered for about three hours!\u00a0 Delivery of our food was somewhat slow, but it didn\u2019t bother us as there was nonstop conversation.<\/p>\n<p>We learned the Colorful Diva is going to become Grandma Diva.\u00a0 Although she\u2019s way too young to be a grandma (aren\u2019t they all over 60 years old?), she\u2019s thrilled, and we\u2019re thrilled for her.<\/p>\n<p>The Cultured Diva smiled widely as she spoke of her upcoming trip to Belize with a male friend of hers.\u00a0 We smiled even wider as we all know he\u2019s way more than a friend than she\u2019ll ever admit to wanting him to be.\u00a0 The Engaged Diva gave us all a fright as she showed up without her ring.\u00a0 A specially-made wedding band is being created to accompany her engagement ring.\u00a0 And the Spontaneous Diva bought a $200 souvenir at her first Kentucky Derby \u2013 a raincoat!<\/p>\n<p>Guided tours through the Citygarden are available, but I would suggest just learning the landscape through the special drink menu created around the different sculptures in the garden.\u00a0 What great, educational fun you can have from your seat.\u00a0 But be prepared.\u00a0 The drinks are pricey and with the portion sizes of the meals, so is the menu.<\/p>\n<p>The Terrace View focuses on small plate options, and the menu changes daily.\u00a0 You can choose a few small plates or take a larger portion of one.\u00a0 Everything is made to order.\u00a0 Delivered to our table was some of the moistest bread we\u2019ve ever tasted.\u00a0 Skip the butter.\u00a0 This bread doesn\u2019t need it.<\/p>\n<p>Several Divas enjoyed salads with their meals.\u00a0 The Chopped Salad was mixed up perfectly.\u00a0 With the 50-Mile Salad, all ingredients come from local farmers within a 50 mile radius.\u00a0 At first hesitant about trying the Flatbread appetizer with unique topping, we were thrilled we gave it a shot.\u00a0 Many thought it was the best part of their meals.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t be worried about ordering the small portion of the Tagliolini with shrimp and crabmeat.\u00a0 The portion was perfect with three large-sized shrimp.\u00a0 Supposedly this dish has a kick to it, but we didn\u2019t notice it.\u00a0 It was light and appetizing but slightly bland.\u00a0 Meat lovers may want to try the Beef Wellington.\u00a0 It was the favorite at the table.\u00a0 And the small serving of the lamb cannelloni was just enough for the Italian Diva, although it lacked some of that Italian flair she\u2019s accustomed to.<\/p>\n<p>We all saved room for dessert but only enough room to share.\u00a0 Try out the Monkey Bread.\u00a0 It\u2019s Mama\u2019s recipe so it must be good.\u00a0 I guess Mama is the chef\u2019s mama, and the chef got it right.\u00a0 It\u2019s made of miniature donut holes with cinnamon and sugar and topped off with a praline sauce that made me want to slap my mama it was so good.<\/p>\n<p>Stop by for a drink before a ball game.\u00a0 Take a stroll through the garden.\u00a0 Enjoy the flowers, just don\u2019t pick any.\u00a0 Oh, and beware of the \u201cplayful\u201d fountain.\u00a0 Visualize 102 drinking fountains, pulsating out of the ground.\u00a0\u00a0 If you don\u2019t watch your step, you may get hosed!<\/p>\n<p>The right table.\u00a0 The right portions.\u00a0 The right night.\u00a0 The
